Preview: AAW The Final Stand (1/26/19)

AAW Pro will say goodbye to two top stars that have elevated themselves and the company for the past couple years. Trevor Lee (and reportedly ACH) have signed contracts with WWE, so their time in AAW has come to an end as 2019 kicks off. Both amazing athletes are very dynamic performers – ACH is a former AAW Heavyweight champion with wins over Keith Lee and David Starr, while “The Carolina Caveman” Trevor Lee will wrestle his final AAW match after holding the AAW Heritage Championship for most of 2018. Lee and ACH both battled in a sixty-minute draw in November at AAW Unstoppable. There will also be an AAW Heritage Championship match and a massive tag team feature attraction at AAW Final Stand in Chicago. Saturday night will have all the action with big implications towards the rest of 2019 with a new AAW Heavyweight champion in Sami Callihan leading the company. Fight For The Future Pre-Show matches will be taking place at 6:45 PM featuring talent from the Black And Brave Wrestling Academy.

Rey Horus vs”The Fresh Prince Of Mid-Air” Trey Miguel

Rey Horus has become a regular in AAW after making a couple of appearances alongside fellow Luchadores LA Park, Flamita and Bandido. Horus can adapt to the flow of any match, even utilizing unique submissions to wear down opponents. Trey Miguel will not be able to beat Rey Horus in the air but this is a fantastic learning experience for Miguel. Trey Miguel has been on the AAW undercard in thrilling bouts for the past several years until signing to Impact Wrestling as a member of The Rascalz with Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz. It’s only a matter of time until Miguel starts picking up victories that will stick in fans minds and this is a big chance for that. Miguel has the experience disadvantage as well, that should motivate Trey Miguel to wrestle at his absolute best.
Prediction: Trey Miguel wins.

AAW Heritage Championship: DJZ (c) vs “Hot Fire” Myron Reed

Photo: AAW

“Hot Fire” Myron Reed has been making a name for himself and it’s all because of AAW Pro and Reed’s willingness to bust out all of the stops in every match no matter his placement on the card. AR Fox has helped Reed immensely, so much so that they have become AAW tag team champions as “Fire Fox”. This is Reed’s first shot at becoming a singles champion in AAW, the former Glory Pro Wrestling Heavyweight champion has all of the tools to fly with DJZ and match hold for hold. DJZ is coming off of an outstanding AAW Heritage title defense against Bandido last month at the AAW Windy City Classic XlV. This has been the best period in the career of DJZ, on a winning streak and popular as ever with his blow horn blasting for key moments in his matches. Reed is one of wrestling’s finest daredevils but all it takes is one slip up and DJZ’s spike DDT, the ZDT, could connect with big impact for a title defense.
Prediction: DJZ retains the AAW Heritage Championship.

LAX (Santana & Ortiz) vs The Lucha Bros (Pentagon Jr & Rey Fenix)

LAX and The Lucha Bros are on a collision course to having the tag team rivalry of the year and 2019 has only just begun. These two teams were made to battle each other, LAX have as many unique combinations as the high-flying Lucha Bros. Santana and Ortiz have been teaming since 2011 and have held seven different tag team championships, they have the chemistry as a top tag team in any company even if they aren’t brothers like Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr. LAX just narrowly escaped the challenge of The Lucha Bros at Impact Wrestling Homecoming just three weeks ago. The winners of this tag team attraction will challenge the AAW tag team champions, AR Fox and Myron Reed, on February 8 in Austin, Texas with the losers taking on The Rascalz, Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz. LAX has yet to capture the AAW tag team championships in their career, it’s time for one of the best tag teams on the planet to beat The Lucha Bros once again to chase the gold.
Prediction: LAX wins.

ACH vs AR Fox

It’s going to be a very emotional night for ACH, as the 31-year old received the biggest main events of his career in AAW. ACH has stolen the show for Ring Of Honor Wrestling (ROH) and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) among other companies, but it was 2018 where ACH reached the pinnacle of his career by becoming the AAW Heavyweight champion. The WRSTLING faction waged a war with ACH and ACH beat them all from David Starr to Jeff Cobb to Trevor Lee. ACH is so popular with his enthusiastic personality and athleticism only matched by a few. AR Fox is thirty-one years old as well but Fox has spent eleven years of his life as a pro Wrestler. Other companies have put all their chips of Fox in the past as well but the past couple of years have shown how much the future means to AR Fox. Time has not passed AR Fox by in the slightest. He can hit a 450 Splash as easy as a wrestler performs an elbow drop. This will be an unforgettable fast-paced encounter and after ACH lost to Eddie Kingston last month at the Windy City Classic XlV, it will be on ACH’s mind to leave AAW with a bang.

Prediction: ACH wins his final AAW match.

Only four matches have been announced so far for the sold event on Saturday, but Trevor Lee’s final opponent has yet to be revealed, as well as matches for MJF, Jessicka Havok and AAW Champion Sami Callihan.
