Preview: FSW No Escape (1/25/19)

Future Stars of Wrestling (FSW) presents No Escape on Friday, January 20, 2019, @ Sam’s Town Live in the Fight Capital of the World Las Vegas, NV. BELL TIME 7PM. The card features three cage matches, the return of Robbie E., and a meet and greet with WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi beginning at 5:30pm.

Dave Mazany vs Alexander Braven

“Pain Train” Dave Mazany has been on quite a win streak in FSW and looks to continue it against one half of Exceptional and Tenacious, Alexander Braven. Mazany’s claw is debilitating and he can apply it at any time, so Braven will need to utilize his height and reach advantage to stay out of its range. Exceptional and Tenacious are coming off a big tag win two weeks ago and Braven looks to keep the roll going RIGHT HERE, RIGHT HERE.

Shaggy McLovin vs Robbie E.

The Shaggamuffins are hoping to see Shaggy open the festivities with a dope skate trick entering the ring, or maybe that’s just me. While his skating prowess is unquestioned his wrestling is quite good too. He improves every match and nearly qualified for the No Limit Cage Match last month. McLovin starts his 2019 FSW singles campaign against former IMPACT/TNA, and reality star Robbie E. The two-time TNA Tag Champion with Jesse Godderz (BroMans) was also TNA TV Champion, and TNA X-Division King. Big step up for Shaggy, but he’s ready to avoid the sophomore slump, and will get the upset win.

Nevada State Championship: Graves (c) vs Sefa Fatu

Joe Graves is a tremendous Champion. He brings intensity to the ring that rapidly spreads to the fans with chants of “WAR!” He takes punishment, delivers plenty himself, and will try to press the issue with Sefa Fatu who wants to keep his distance and maintain range. The contrast of styles is classic. Fatu wants space for his wide range of kicks, chops, and is adept at working from the top turnbuckle for his size. Graves lives to pressure his opponent with non-stop attack rarely taking time between moves. How Fatu executes his game plan will determine whether or not the youngest member of the Samoan Dynasty wins Gold.

FSW Women’s Championship: Taya Valkyrie (c) vs Katie Forbes

Taya Valkyrie has owned the FSW Women’s division and is fresh off winning the IMPACT Knockouts Title. Valkyrie’s attack is patient and methodical. She doesn’t rush her moves sets and maintains her composure under pressure. Her kicks may be the best in the sport and she’s capable of winning the match with submissions, or power moves. Katie Forbes (also known as Khole Hurtz on Women of Wrestling) steps into the ring as an enormous underdog. Forbes has competed all over the world in her four-year career. Now she comes to the Fight Capital with a chance to make history against arguably the top woman in the game. There is no reason to think Taya won’t continue her dominance.

FSW Heavyweight Championship: Chris Bey (c) vs Shogun Jones

In a company filled with bright young stars here are two of the brightest. Chris Bey stunned the wrestling world when he frog splashed his way over Hammerstone at the Against All Odds Rumble on December 14th. Now instead of the rematch with The Business, your 2017 FSW Rookie of the Year faces the 2018 winner, Shogun Jones. Bey has no trouble handling himself against bigger guys. We’ve seen the Champion do it against the likes of Watts, Shane Strickland, and Hammerstone, but Shogun’s different. Jones called out Bey at the FSW Arena January 12th when he got his award and topped it off with a blindside attack. There are so many ways Shogun can beat you. He’s a traditional power guy with slams, and a devastating big boot that he can hit from anywhere, but he can also wrestle small if need be. Jones is comfortable off his feet which is rare for a man his size. Bey will want to use his quick kicks to keep the challenger off balance, and not allow him to set his feet for power transitions. As great as Shogun’s been, it’s Bey’s time now, and he isn’t giving up the belt yet.

FSW Tag Team Championship, Steel Cage Match: One Percent (c) (Jorel Nelson & Royce Isaacs) vs Bonus Boyz (Clutch & Sugar Brown)

Chants of “Welcome Back!” greeted the two time FSW Tag Team Champions the Bonus Boyz when they attacked One Percent announcing their challenge for the Tag Belts. The Boyz said they never received their mandatory rematch, and then shocked the Arena faithful demanding the match be in a cage. Well, here we go. One Percent was dominant in 2018, and a win over the Bonus Boyz would seal their claim as the best in FSW history. Their double teams are fluid and there’s rarely any hesitation in their move sets. Isaacs and Nelson’s confidence is sky high right now, but the Boyz aren’t coming in unprepared. They’ve beaten One Percent before, but that was when they were less experienced together. The Champs retain in a war.

No Limits Championship, Steel Cage Scramble: Owen Travers (c) vs Damian Drake vs The WIseguy vs Jake Atlas vs Matt Vandagriff vs Ice Williams

This match has tons of variables. It certainly feels like Damian Drake and Owen Travers will continue their war, but there is some good talent in this cage. Jake Atlas is coming off a title win at PCW ULTRA and what will Matt Vandagriff do from the top of the steel structure? Is this the beginning of the Ice Age, or is The Wiseguy too smart for everyone? Travers is at the top of his game, and Chief finds a way to keep the title.

Cage Match: Hammerstone vs John Morrison

Photo: FSW

As usual, The Business Hammerstone is in the Main Event, but not with the title. You don’t kick a man’s wife in the face in downtown Las Vegas without consequences, and John Morrison comes to the Fight Capital intent on making his opponent pay. Morrison’s revenge began with his interference in December, but there will be no surprises once the cage door closes, and they will be locked in to tear each other apart. A win over the IMPACT World Champion would be huge for Hammerstone and could be the win that elevates the man from Arizona into the big time, or will it be business as usual for Morrison in a Las Vegas Main Event?
