First Match Announced for Joey Janela LA Confidential, Other Names Revealed

First Match Announced for Joey Janela's LA Confidential

It was heartbreaking news to hear that Joey Janela‘s knee injury would require him to take at least a year away from the ring, but the good news is, he’s still going to putting on special events like Joey Janela’s Spring Break and Joey Janela’s Lost in New York in conjunction with New Jersey’s Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). On Friday November 16, GCW is heading to California for Joey Janela’s LA Confidential and it promises to be every bit as fun a show as the past three Joey Janela special events. While there hasn’t been a lot of news on match announcements yet, they have announced one huge match, plus four other names who will be appearing on the card.

Nick Gage is the face of GCW and reigning GCW Heavyweight Champion for nearly 300 days. He’s come a long way from his ultraviolent ways in Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), where he spent his first 11 years and captured the CZW World Heavyweight title on four occasions. Following his return to wrestling in 2015, it didn’t take long for Gage to depart CZW for GCW, where he’s emerged as a more well rounded wrestler and having some of the best matches of his career. It will be interesting to see who Gage’s opponent will be, but it would be nice if he got a rematch against legendary WWE/WCW tough guy Haku, who was supposed to be his opponent at Joey Janela’s Lost in New York. Sadly, Haku had to withdraw to attend the funeral of longtime friend Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.

The Great Sasuke was one of Joey Janela’s inspirations and he finally got the chance to wrestle the Japanese legend at this year’s Joey Janela’s Spring Break 2 in New Orleans for WrestleMania week. The 3x Michinoku Pro Junior Heavyweight Champion and co-founder of Michinoku Pro Wrestling (MPW) is a near 30-year veteran of Japanese wrestling, having fought for NJPW, All Japan, Pro Wrestling NOAH and others, as well as stints in Mexico with CMLL, plus appearances for the WWF and ECW in the mid-90s.

The only match announcement so far continues the Joey Janela series tradition of generational dream matches and this one is a doozy. Another legendary WWE tough guy, Hardcore Holly is making his GCW debut in Los Angeles. Since departing the WWE in 2008, Holly has remained active on the indie circuit, appearing for the likes of House of Hardcore, All American Wrestling (AAW), Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW) and MCW Pro. He’s also worked quite a bit in the UK, appearing for Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE), IPW:UK, Preston City Wrestling (PCW) and others. The former 6x WWE Hardcore Champion and 3x WWE Tag Team Champion will have his hands full in Brody King, one of the baddest men in indie wrestling, who has had an absolutely huge breakout year in 2018. The current reigning AAW Heavyweight Champion has also left his mark with Major League Wrestling (MLW), PCW ULTRA, DEFY Wrestling, PROGRESS, AAA, and many other promotions, including Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG), where he made his Battle of Los Angeles debut this past September. This will be a stiff one, but one for the ages.

The current indie buzz wrestler of the moment is diminutive aerialist Marko Stunt, who went viral after showing up to Joey Janela’s Lost in New York unannounced to answer Kyle The Beast (KTB)‘s open challenge. Since then, Stunt has been making debut after debut with promotions like AAW, Bar Wrestling, Beyond and MLW. He also made his PWG Battle of Los Angeles debut in September and even appeared on All In, the indie supercard presented by Cody Rhodes & The Young Bucks. This human GIF machine is the real deal and it will be exciting to see who he gets matched with in Los Angeles.

The last name announced so far is 17-year veteran Amazing Red. The 36-year old high flyer from Puerto Rico was a star with IMPACT Wrestling for nearly a decade from 2002 through 2011, where he was a 3x IMPACT X-Division Champion. Following his departure from IMPACT, he co-founded House of Glory (HOG) in New York City in 2012, and has continued to work the indie circuits such as MCW Pro, House of Hardcore, New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC), AIW and GCW. One of the 2000 indie boom’s most innovative high flyers, Amazing Red is a solid addition to the Joey Janela’s LA event.
