Championship Wrestling Association is not slowing down with their international announcements for CWA Christmas Showdown in Puerto Rico Convention Center. The company announce on July that their biggest event in history will be on December 16. The first name announced for such event was “The Villian” Marty Scurll. Later, in an episode of CWA Acción Vibrante – their weekly internet show – the company announced that Ring of Honor wrestler/announcer Colt Cabana would be returning to Puerto Rico.
Now, former WWE Intercontinental Champion and DX member Billy Gunn, will be returning to Puerto Rico for CWA PR biggest show in history. Gunn was part of the IWA PR days, when then WWF – now WWE – had a working agreement with Victor Quiñone’s International Wrestling Association. In 2013, Billy Gunn & X-Pac wrestled for the now inactive wrestling promotion Puerto Rico Wrestling Association.
For IMPACT Wrestling‘s DJ Z, this is his debut on the island. The former IMPACT World Tag Team Champion and X-Division Champion brings a element of excitement and freshness to the event. DJ Z knows very well the CWA Heavyweight Champion Star Roger. Previously with Cleveland Knights Championship Wrestling (CKCW), DJ Z and his former partner Robbie Willian were added to a Fatal-Four-Way for the CWA title alongside World Wrestling League‘s Mike Mendoza and Roger. In the match, Roger was able to successfully defend the championship after a Canadian Destroyer to Mendoza.
It still unknown who Marty Scurll, DJ Z, Colt Cabana and Billy Gunn will be facing. Many fans believe that Christmas Showdown will finally have Justin Dynamite vs. Star Roger for the CWA Championship, so it’s unknown who the international stars are going up against. CWA sits in the second place of top Puerto Rican wrestling promotions, just under WWL’s shadow. The company has been very active on bringing international stars to the island. In May, CMLL star Caristico went against Roger for the CWA title. Negro Casas was schedule to appear, but he was unable to enter the island.
