#AndNEW: Stuka Jr. Wins NWA World Historic Light Heavyweight Champion

In a Tuesday night show in Arena Mexico, Stuka Jr. beat Hechicero to win the NWA World Historic Light Heavyweight Championship. Stuka has now won his first major title in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL).

Previously known primarily as a tag team wrestler, Stuka Jr. went head to head with Hechicero, who almost had a two-year championship reign and was in his 7th defense of the championship. In the semi main event, Stuka took two falls to three to win his first major title in Mexico’s number one wrestling promotion.

Stuka Jr. is the younger brother of CMLL wrestler Stuka and started in the mid 2000s in CMLL. He was a regular in the openers and started teaming with Fuego. He would later win the Arena Coliseo Tag Team titles with him. Stuka Jr. captured the Mexican National Trios Championship alongside Metro and Mascara Dorada (Gran Metallik in WWE) and also win the Reyes del Aire in 2014.

Rey Hechicero comes off from a lengthy championship run, but with few defenses (not a new thing in Mexico). Early this month he successfully defended the championship against Ring of Honor star Christopher Daniels in a show of Pura Raza that promoted both CMLL and ROH stars. Hechicero came in confident in last night’s match, as back in 2017 he successfully defended his Light Heavyweight title against Stuka Jr. himself.

Stuka Jr. told the press, “I fulfilled my promise, to all my people who follow me and to those who do not… look at this, it is worth gold”. The Human Torpedo enters CMLL Aniversario – if he doesn’t lose the title before the show – with a major title that could get him in a higher place in Mexico’s most important event of the year. At the time of this article, no official card for Aniversario 85 has been announce by CMLL or any media outlet.
