Preview: PROGRESS Chapter 74: Mid Week Matters (7/25/18)

PROGRESS dropped this bombshell news a few nights after Chapter 73.  With Zack Sabre Jr. now out of Wembley, everything in PROGRESS has been turned on it’s head.  There were also some shocking events at Chapter 73 leading to everything being more exciting than it has been in a long time.  The new PROGRESS Wembley main event will be decided by a simple method originated in CHIKARA. The rule is, if anyone wins three singles matches in a row between now and Wembley they will be added to the main event.

With all that said, Chapter 74: Mid Week Matters is a big one regardless with three title matches announced and a number one contenders match.  Lucha Forever introduced Midweek Graps to British wrestling and PROGRESS are throwing their hat into the ring here.

Match 1: Toni Storm vs Laura Di Matteo

Two of the main women in PROGRESS that have opposed the House of Couture battle it out for the opportunity to take down the queen.  Storm is, of course, the former champion and defeated Killer Kelly in her PROGRESS return.  Laura Di Matteo has been on a roll since returning at Super Strong Style 16 and has won two matches on the bounce heading into this.  Regardless of who wins both women have had issues with the House of Couture, and LDM has longstanding issues with Jinny so she would certainly love to dethrone her arch rival.

Match 2: Anti Fun Police ( Los Federales Santos Jr. & Damian Dunne) vs Grizzled Young Vets ( Zack Gibson & James Drake)

This match is part of the tag team series which currently looks like this:

GYV are looking to catch Webster and Wild Boar Mike Hitchman, known on the indie scene as The 198.  This heel vs heel clash will be similar to the Anti-Fun-Police match with Havoc and Webster and Havoc and Haskins vs GYV where there will be cheating and attempts to outcheat each other.  The fun police will be relying on Los Federales and his power game to get them the win against the crafty champions.

Match 3: PROGRESS Women’s Championship: Jinny (c) vs Millie Mckenzie

Young prospect Mckenzie finally gets the title shot she missed out on due to injury.  Mckenzie is almost the polar opposite to Jinny.  She is a badass who just wants to get in a  ring and Suplex her opponent all over the place.  Mae Young Classic 2 competitor Jinny has finally arrived at her throne, thanks to the help she gets from the House of Couture.  With the potential rematch with Storm or long-awaited clash with Laura waiting, expect Jinny getting the win.  But there is no doubt that Millie Mckenzie will one day hold this title.

Match 4: ATLAS Championship: Doug Williams (c) vs TK Cooper

Photo: PROGRESS

TK Cooper cashes in his Number One contendership at the first available opportunity at Chapter 74.  The reformation of the South Pacific Power Trip has seen the cockiness return.  And it is never more apparent than in his claim that he will retire Doug Williams.  Williams has vowed to retire from wrestling when he loses the Atlas championship so Cooper will have to kill him to keep him down.

Match 5: PROGRESS World Championship: Travis Banks (c) vs WALTER

Photo: PROGRESS

WALTER has been a dominant force ever since stepping into a PROGRESS ring.  His series with Matt Riddle elevated the Atlas title to a new level and WALTER made the division his own.  And now he’s set his sights on the biggest prize in PROGRESS.  The first match between these two saw Banks run and get counted out, retaining his title in the process but losing what shred of respect he still had with the fans.  Banks has nowhere to run or hide this time, as PROGRESS management has made the decision that this match will have NO COUNT-OUTS.  Banks must beat WALTER at Chapter 74 to keep his championship and can’t run any more.
