Impact’s Newest Knockout: Su Yung Has Arrived (VIDEOS)

On tonight’s Impact Wrestling, indie superstar Su Yung made her in-ring televised debut, making quick work of Amber Nova, with her sights set firmly on new Knockouts Champion Allie next. For indie fans, it was sweet validation finally seeing Su Yung get to appear on a nationally televised promotion. But for those who just got introduced to “The Undead Bride” last week when she debuted following Allie’s match against Sienna, here’s a little look at who the newest Knockout is and the road she’s taken to the Impact Zone.

Su Yung started out in the south with Mississippi’s Magnificent Ladies of Wrestling (MLW) in 2008, trained by legendary Memphis grappler Bill Dundee and Kevin White. It didn’t take long for the WWE to notice, and in 2010 she was signed to a developmental deal and sent to work with Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW), the precursor to NXT. Renamed Sonia (after briefly going by Vannah), she joined a class of women recruits that included WWE Superstars like Naomi, AJ Lee and Kaitlyn, as well as others who went on to bigger indie careers like Lucha Underground’s Catrina and Ring of Honor’s Brandi Rhodes. But she was released less than a year later.

She began to work with promotions like SHIMMER, SHINE and many others, but after origining debuting as a happier “normal” woman, she slowly began to get darker and darker, until her “Undead Bride” gimmick began to emerge. She’s grown more each year, appearing for such promotions as Stardom, Queens of Combat (QOC), Women Superstars Uncensored (WSU), Anarchy Championship Wrestling (ACW), PWX, CWF Mid-Atlantic and many more across North America. She added the UK indie circuit to her travelogue this past year as well, appearing for Southside Wrestling Entertainment (SWE), Preston City Wrestling (PCW) and Lucha Forever. She made her Impact debut earlier this year at the January tapings (which are airing now). She’s married to former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann.
