New Faction Desi Hit Squad Coming to Impact Wrestling

Yesterday only Social Media, Impact Wrestling announced the impending debut of a new faction lead by Indo-Canadian wrestling legend “Great Gama” Singh and featuring four new wrestlers, including Global Forged winner Hakim Zane (now called Rohit Raju).

The most recognizable of the four wrestlers under Gama’s guidance, Rohit Raju has been wrestling with Impact since last April under the name Hakim Zane. The 37-year old from Saginaw, Michigan has been a Midwest indie wrestler for a decade this year, starting with NWA East in 2009, as well as CLASH (Collective League of Adrenaline, Strength and Honor), Xtreme Intense Championship Wrestling (XICW), Glory Pro, and Toronto’s Superkick’d. He also worked for Scott D’Amore‘s Border City Wrestling (BCW) in Windsor (across the river from Detroit) and had matches for Ring of Honor.

Now under the name Vikas Kumar, this wrestler was an Indian wrestler named Pagal Parinda. He may be remembered by some as part of the roster for the Impact co-branded promotion Ring Ka King (he  teamed with the WWE’s Singh Brothers when they were the Bollywood Boyz) back in 2012. During last spring’s tour of India, he competed for Impact Wrestling for a TV taping against Davey Richards.

England’s Tony Cage moved to Canada in 2015 to train with former ECW/WWE/WCW Legend Lance Storm at the Storm Wrestling Academy in Calgary, Alberta and worked for Prairie Wrestling Alliance (PWA) and Real Canadian Wrestling (RCW). He moved to Ontario in 2017, working with Smash Wrestling, Border City Wrestling, as well as Oshawa’s Pro Wrestling Eclipse and Barrie Wrestling. He’s debuting with Impact Wrestling under the name Gursinder Singh. Like Rohit Raju/Hakim Zane, he was also a contestant on Global Forged.

BHUPINDER SINGH

A protege of The Great Khali in the latter’s Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE) in India, he’s also a former champion bodybuilder, kickboxer and student of wushu, an ancient Chinese aerial martial art. Bhupinder Singh is named after the Indian Maharajah of the early 1900s who had a bit of a thing for professional wrestling that was sweeping Europe. Ironically enough, his wrestler of interest was the original Great Gama, the great Indian grappler who faced Stanislaus Zbyszko, who the faction leader Great Gama took his own name from.

The Singh family name is huge in professional wrestling although, unlike the Harts, Von Erichs, or Funks, they aren’t actually all related (they’re more the East Indian version of the fabled Anderson clan of the NWA). Gama Singh was a huge international star in the 1970s, teaming with Tiger Jeet Singh in Japan, while conquering Stampede Wrestling as it’s biggest heel. His real life nephew is WWE Superstar and former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, who has his own Singh Brothers working with him. Assumedly, the two younger Singhs in Desi Hit Squad will have some sort of “relation” to The Great Gama.
