3 Big Names Leave Global Force Wrestling

There’s no denying that Global Force Wrestling (GFW), the promotion formerly known as TNA and Impact Wrestling, is still going through some adjustments since Anthem took over ownership earlier this year. With a new creative team behind the scenes and an overhaul of management and backstage personnel, GFW is rebuilding as much as it is rebranding. While they’ve added some new stars in such indie favourites as Dezmond Xavier, Kongo Kong, Marshe Rockett and more, they’ve recently lost three of the bigger names on the roster.

MAGNUS

On July 20, it was reported that former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus had left the company (Magnus later confirmed it that day). Magnus was working with the previous GFW (prior to the merger) and was it’s World Champion, and it seems Magnus just returned for a small angle in order to protect the continuity angle of merging the GFW World title with the Impact Wrestling World title. With his wife, Mickie James, back working for the WWE, rumours will automatically rise that he could be heading to the WWE himself. He’d be an asset on either NXT or the main roster, but realistically, he may be better served working part time as a bigger name on the WWE UK brand show.

MATT MORGAN

One of the TNA Originals, Matt Morgan was lured out of retirement again this year to rejoin the promotion, but it appears that he only agreed to work part time on the weekends. With tapings falling mid-week and plans to return to the road for Live Events, Morgan stated on the Wrestling Inc. podcast yesterday that he “made an agreement to wrestle with them on weekends, right? Where I didn’t have to leave my 9-5 job, anything like that. And unfortunately it just didn’t work out because they switched it and they started taping on week days and they’re looking to travel.” Due to the increasing workload of GFW, Morgan felt it was time to once again part ways with the company.

DAVEY RICHARDS

The latest news came just a few hours ago, when the American Wolf himself, Davey Richards, announced on Twitter that he had come to terms with his release from GFW this afternoon. It wasn’t due to the new contracts or displeasure, but rather that his medical school education was becoming a bigger priority in his life and he had to focus more on his dream of becoming a doctor than remain for a few more years in the wrestling industry. While he may still take some indie bookings, it’s safe to say that Richards’ wrestling career is probably winding up, sooner rather than later.
