Preview: SHINE 42 (5/12/17)

This Friday, SHINE returns with SHINE 42, as SHINE Champion LuFisto continues her reign of terror within WWN‘s female promotion. Last month, she fought back a tough challenge in rematch with the woman she won the title from, Lucha Underground‘s Ivelisse. A solid card in the making as Ivelisse regroups with a new formation of Las Sicarias (her former enforcer ACR turned on the group last month to join LuFisto’s C4 and Thea Trinidad has left for NXT), recruiting current Shimmer Champion Mercedes Martinez to chase the SHINE Tag Team titles. All the action starts at 9pm EST this Friday, exclusively on FloSlam.

SHINE Sparkle Showcase Match:
Dementia D’Rose vs. Aja
Perera

Like all SHINE events, the opening match-up features two up-and-coming indie wrestlers and SHINE 42 is no exception. Atlanta’s Dementia D’Rose is a 5-year veteran who has been a regular with Big Time Wrestling the past few years and she’s going toe to toe with Brazilian grappler Aja Perera, who recently made her debut with Queens of Combat. This SHINE showcase match is their biggest show to date, so expect both to go full tilt to impress the crowd and SHINE management.

ACR vs. Lindsay Snow

Amanda Carolina Rodriguez (aka ACR) turned her back on Ivelise and La Sicarias last month after frustration with Ivelisse and Thea Trinidad. She’ll be coming in with a new hunger and attitude against Lindsay Snow, who debuted with SHINE last month in SHINE 41‘s Sparkle Showcase. ACR has too much to prove going out on her own, so expect Snow to be the unfortunate victim in this lesson. The only question will be is whether any of C4’s other members (Amber O’Neal or Kennadi Brink) come out to watch her on.

Kiera Hogan vs. Angel Rose

Keira Hogan last appeared for SHINE back in SHINE 39, but she’s hardly remained quiet since then. This 22-year old starlet has been working hard in Queens of Combat, WSU and Shimmer (amongst others) and is poised to have a breakout year this year. She’s slated to take on Angel Rose, who only recently made her SHINE debut in January at SHINE 40. She’s been impressive so far – so much so that she was quickly signed to Impact Wrestling, where she’s part of the newly reformed LAX, under the name Diamante. With Anthem’s new policy of signing exclusive deals, there’s a chance we may not see her in SHINE much longer, which means she’ll have all the more to prove against an upstart like Hogan. This should be a solid contest.

Aria Blake vs. Aerial Monroe

Aria Blake is another one who competed last month in the Sparkle showcase, but she’s appeared sporadically for SHINE since way back in SHINE 30. At SHINE 42, she gets a real test further up in the card, taking on the rising star Aerial Monroe. Last month, Monroe defeated Priscilla Kelly after three straight losses, and Monroe looks to continue the momentum as she becomes one of the bright young stars for SHINE in 2017.

Candy Cartwright vs. Renee Michelle

Candy Cartwright suffered a big loss to Su Yung last month, but seems to have turned a corner as far as her character is concerned and will be looking to forge ahead with a new focus in 2017. Renee Michelle has appeared for SHINE twice before, both losses, so will be looking to make a statement after being a 3-time Women’s Champion for Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW) and recent bouts in WSU. Last month, Cartwright distracted Lindsay Snow allowing Aria Blake to pick up the win in their opening contest, so it will be interesting to see if either Blake accompanies (and/or aids) Cartwright or if Snow comes out for revenge.

Chelsea Green vs. Allysin Kay

A battle of two indie greats who both work for Impact Wrestling under different personas (Green as Laurel Van Ness and Allysin Kay as Sienna). Kay lost her shot at the #1 contendership for the SHINE title last month when her and her opponent, Mercedes Martinez, fought to a time limit draw. Kay will be looking to regain her momentum here, while Green hopes to capitalize on her big win last month when she subbed in for tag team champion Gabi alongside her Stardom tourmate Santana Garrett. With both potentially going exclusive to Impact Wrestling with new ownership’s desire to lock up their talent in the tradition of the WWE, this could be one of the last times we see either on non-Impact broadcasts.

Malia Hosaka vs. Priscilla Kelly in a Respect Match

Photos: Mosaka (Shine), Kelly (Online World of Wrestling)

Last month, “The Modern Day Moolah” Malia Hosaka continued to ravage the young stars of SHINE when she defeated Angel Rose and berated Priscilla Kelly following her loss to Aerial Monroe. The 30-year veteran of the squared circle looks to teach the brash upstart Kelly a lesson in respect in this brawl, but Kelly has some powerful friends. Kelly is the lone female member of the Full Impact Pro faction, Uncle John’s Friends – which includes Sami Callihan, AR Fox, Darby Allin and Dave Crist – and it’s only a matter of time before this gang makes its presence known in other WWN promotions.

SHINE Tag Team Championship Match:
Santana Garrett & Gabi CastroVinci (c) vs. Las Sicarias (Ivelisse & Mercedes Martinez)

Gabi (formerly known as Raquel) was injured for last month’s title defence against C4, but Santana’s friend Chelsea Green stepped in in the defence. On Friday, the original duo returns, this time to take on a revamped version of Las Sicarias, with Ivelisse getting back-up from Mercedes Martinez. Gabi has improved greatly in the ring, and the other three are ring generals – this match is sure to be a show stealer.

SHINE Championship Match:
LuFisto (c) vs. Leva Bates

Photos: Shine

Sadly, the heavily anticipated feud between LuFisto and Su Yung ended before it even started, when she no-showed The Red Wedding title match-up slated for the WWN Supershow over WrestleMania weekend and Yung was apparently released from the company. With no #1 contender named due to the time limit draw between Allysin Kay and Mercedes Martinez, the battlefield remained wide open. Enter Leva Bates (aka Blue Pants from NXT), the Cosplay Queen of Wrestling, who will step up to SHINE’s resident Conquering Empress and try and take her down. Bates has heart and spirit, but LuFisto has fought bloodier wars – she beat Kevin Owens for the CZW Iron Man Championship and Necro Butcher in the Stranglehold Wrestling Death Match Tournament back in 2006. Expect LuFisto to remain undefeated as Champion a little bit longer.
