Another week of fantasy football action is in the books, as owners everywhere scour the waiver wire to find the best available defense streams. Looking around the league shows that defenses like the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs offer the best chance of positive performance in the coming weeks.
Note that, in order to be eligible for this list, the defenses needed to have a realistic shot of actually being available. Obviously, there is some variation from league to league, so make sure to peruse all available players before making your claims. There could be a better option available in your specific league.
Week 8 Waiver Wire Claims: Running Back – Wide Receiver – Quarterback – Defense
Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs Highlight Fantasy Football Week 8 Defense Streams
Philadelphia Eagles
Move over, New York Jets – there’s a new most pathetic offense in town. The Dallas Cowboys have a great wide receiver trio headlined by Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, and Michael Gallup. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they do not have a quarterback. Andy Dalton suffered a vicious hit during Week 7 and probably will not suit up. This leaves undrafted free agent Ben DiNucci running the offense, which is obviously not ideal for the Cowboys.
From a fantasy perspective, defensive scoring is largely a product of the opposing offense getting in their own way. While DiNucci could theoretically surprise everyone, it’s safe to assume he’s not ready to handle starting duties. The Philadelphia Eagles have a solid defense that should be able to generate tons of sacks against a bad offensive line and come away with a few turnovers.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs play the NFL’s equivalent of the “Free” Bingo space in the New York Jets. New York actually showed some signs of life in Week 7, bringing quarterback Sam Darnold and rookie receiver Denzel Mims back onto the field. However, this still only led to 10 points against an underwhelming Buffalo Bills defense. Kansas City should be able to limit points while adding a turnover or two and a fair amount of sacks.
Los Angeles Chargers
When all the pieces are assembled, the Los Angeles Chargers actually have a pretty solid defense. While nobody will confuse this unit with the 1985 Chicago Bears, they have what it takes to stop a below-average passing attack. This is good news, as they face off against one of the worst offenses in football during Week 8.
The Denver Broncos have a hard enough time moving the ball even when Drew Lock is in the lineup. However, the second-year pro suffered a shoulder injury and could miss Week 8. As of this posting, nobody knows whether or not he’ll have to miss any time. If he does, that means Brett Rypien is back under center. If he doesn’t, he still won’t be 100%. This is a juicy matchup, and fantasy football owners should be happy with this defense stream.
