The 2012 league MVP has signed a new contract as it was announced that Adrian Peterson inked a two-year deal with the Washington Redskins. ESPN’s Josina Anderson initially reported on the news.

Washington Redskins Sign Adrian Peterson to Two-Year Deal
Stuck in a committee with Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara to start the 2017 season, Peterson’s career looked to be over after being traded midseason from the New Orleans Saints to the Arizona Cardinals and injuring his neck. The injury would end Peterson’s season. He disbanded those ideals after signing with the Washington Redskins and running for over 1,000 yards for the eighth time in his career.
The 33-year-old will be looking to repeat that success in 2019.
Peterson had a resurgence in 2018 in Washington after the rockiest year of his career in 2017. Washington signed Peterson after rookie second-round pick Darius Guice went down with a torn ACL. Signed to the veteran minimum, Peterson well outperformed his price tag running for 1,042 yards and starting every game of the season. His ball security was also better than usual as he only fumbled three times — his least in a 12+ game season since 2011. If nothing, he proved that he can still start in the NFL even as he continues into his mid-30s.
Peterson has racked up a cabinet full of accolades throughout his NFL career. Since being drafted seventh overall in 2009 by the Minnesota Vikings, Peterson has won offensive rookie of the year, been to seven Pro Bowls, been named first-team All-Pro four times, second-team three times, and lead the league in rushing three times. His most recent rushing title came in 2015.

It didn’t matter where Peterson landed, he was going to command the rock. Peterson adds a veteran presence to a fairly steady backfield and will likely have his sights set on starting or at least handling the bulk of the carries. Peterson is continuing to chase history sitting eighth all-time in career rushing yards and tied for fifth all-time with Jim Brown in rushing touchdowns with 106. He only trails Frank Gore in rushing yards among active players.
With a new contract going into the 2019 season, Peterson’s inevitable Hall of Fame induction is going to have to wait another year.
