Delanie Walker Signs Two-Year Extension

Training camp is officially underway, and with a new season comes a new contract for Tennessee Titans tight end Delanie Walker. According to reports, Walker signed a two-year, $17 million dollar extension. Walker was entering the final year of his deal, but Tennessee clearly didn’t want to risk losing Walker to the open market. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke the news.

Tennessee Titans Extend Delanie Walker

Walker first joined the Titans on a four-year, $17.5 million deal prior to the 2013 season. Since joining the squad, Walker has hauled in 356 receptions for 4,156 yards and 26 touchdowns, quietly serving as one of the better tight ends in the league. Walker leads the Titans in all three categories since joining the club.

Despite being 33-years old, some of Walker’s best seasons have come in recent years. Walker is currently coming off his third consecutive Pro Bowl selection and has recorded 800 or more yards in each of the last four seasons.

Prior to joining the Titans, Walker was a sixth-round selection of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2006 NFL Draft. While he would go on to be one of the better receiving tight ends in football, it took him a while to find his footing.

Serving as second fiddle to Vernon Davis, Walker recorded just 13 receptions and two touchdowns during his first three years in the league. While he slowly became more incorporated into the passing game, he never earned the chance to be the teams primary tight end.

Walker’s best season with the 49ers likely came in the 2010 season. During that campaign, Walker posted 29 receptions for 331 yards, yet didn’t record a touchdown. Ever since joining the Titans, Walker has recorded no fewer than 60 receptions, 571 yards, or three touchdowns.
