Los Angeles Chargers Corner Jason Verrett Suffers Season-Ending Injury

Jason Verrett of the Los Angeles Chargers just can’t catch a break. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Verrett has torn his Achilles and is out for the season. The super-talented, but often injured cornerback has struggled with injuries for most of his time with the Chargers.

Cornerback Jason Verrett Suffers Season-Ending Injury During Los Angeles Chargers Conditioning Test

Ian Rapoport first broke the news:

Verrett only appeared in one game last season. He complained of knee soreness, after game one against the Denver Broncos, and was held out of week two’s game against the Miami Dolphins. The Chargers placed him on injured reserve the following week. This came after only appearing in four games the previous season for the same issue. While his knee has seemingly recovered, this latest injury will cost him the entirety of his 2018 season.

His healthiest year came in 2015 when he started 14 games. He recorded 12 passes defended and three interceptions, including a pick-six. He looked to be on the verge of becoming one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.

A first-round pick out of Texas Christian, Verrett’s rookie season in 2014 was a microcosm of his career. When on the field, he looked great, playing at a high level for a rookie corner. Still, he missed games throughout the season for various injuries, eventually being placed on injured reserve after week nine.

Los Angeles will push on without Verrett, something they have already become accustomed to. Casey Hayward has already established himself as one of the top corners in the league, and Trevor Williams was a pleasant surprise last year, and Desmond King showed flashes in his rookie year.

Still, this is not a good start for a Chargers team who already lost tight end Hunter Henry during OTA’s. Their depth is already being tested before the team even officially lines players up on the field.
