Darren Sproles

Saints Legend Joins Broncos In Surprising Role

Former NFL running back Darren Sproles was one of the league’s most dangerous receiving backs during his time in the league. Playing from 2005 to 2019, the Kansas State product found success with the San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, but is probably best known for his time with the New Orleans Saints. While he only spent three seasons with Drew Brees and Sean Payton, the running back recorded 146 receptions for 1,400 yards and 11 touchdowns while adding another 1,154 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. With his help, Brees and Payton authored some of the best offenses of the 2010s.

Now, he’s returning to the football field, but in a different role. During a recent appearance on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, the former three-time Pro Bowler announced he was reuniting with Sean Payton as a coaching intern for the Denver Broncos.

Darren Sproles Joins Broncos As Coaching Intern, Reunites With Sean Payton

Darren Sproles joins an organization with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations. Current sitting atop the AFC West with a 9-2 record, second-year quarterback Bo Nix is playing solid football while surrounded by a great offensive line, an elite defense, and a proven head coach in Payton. This team has all the ingredients to make a deep postseason run, and they currently have a two-game lead in the division. While it’s far too early to definitively say they’ll win the AFC West, they likely have their eyes on the elusive bye week.

As of this posting, the Broncos, Indianapolis Colts, and New England Patriots are tied for the best record in the AFC. It’s too early to say how the tiebreakers would work if one or more teams finish with the same record, so Denver should try to win out and gain that elusive bye week. Hopefully, Darren Sproles can play a small part in making that dream a reality.
