Chiefs, Saints Could Land Browns $100 Million Weapon

The Cleveland Browns are likely looking to sell, and wide receiver Amari Cooper should fetch plenty of trade interest across the league.
Amari Cooper Trade

The Cleveland Browns enter Week 5 with a 1-3 record, and this abysmal start to the season could be the precursor to an Amari Cooper trade. Originally acquired from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a fifth-round pick, Cooper has remained one of the league’s more reliable receivers during his time with the Browns. He recorded over 1,150 yards in each of his first two seasons with the club and currently has 16 receptions for 148 yards and two touchdowns through four games in 2024.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and the Browns could trade Amari Cooper if their season continues to unravel. Deshaun Watson is arguably the NFL’s worst starting quarterback and the $230 million man is singlehandedly ruining this team’s shot at a playoff run. Seeing as Cleveland cannot get rid of Watson’s contract and Cooper is in the final year of his deal, the Browns could send the decorated wide receiver to a hopeful contender like the Kansas City Chiefs or New Orleans Saints.

Chiefs, Saints Top Suitors In Amari Cooper Trade Talks

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl last year despite their abysmal wide receiver depth chart. A glaring need on an otherwise well-rounded roster, General Manager Brett Veach paired free agent veteran Marquise Brown and first-round pick Xavier Worthy with incumbent starter Rashee Rice. On paper, these three are more than enough to support Patrick Mahomes, but since games aren’t played on paper, they could be in the market for an Amari Cooper trade.

Brown suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason opener, and Rice likely tore his ACL following a Patrick Mahomes interception. Xavier Worthy is the last man standing, and while the Texas product has made his fair share of exciting plays, he’s not ready to be a consistent part of the offense. This lack of security combined with the inconsistent play of Travis Kelce means that this team could use another set of hands, and an Amari Cooper trade could once again make this offense one of the most dangerous in football. The Chiefs might not be as good as their 4-0 record suggests, and adding Cooper to the mix will increase their odds of winning three consecutive Super Bowls.

More Weapons in New Orleans

The New Orleans Saints are perhaps the unluckiest 2-2 team in the NFL. After dominating the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys to start the season, the Saints lost two close games to drop one game out of the division lead. Even though they trail in the standings, this team has the talent to make some noise in the postseason, and they’ll only increase their odds of a deep playoff run with an Amari Cooper trade.

Chris Olave is a fantastic perimeter threat and Rashid Shaheed knows how to take the top off the defense. However, this team is still searching for the reliable third option Michael Thomas was supposed to be last year. Amari Cooper might be on the older side, but the trade candidate could create one of the league’s most dangerous wide receiver depth charts. With Derek Carr playing some of his best football, this offense should be one of the NFL’s most dangerous units.
