After demanding a trade earlier in the offseason, wide receiver Deebo Samuel has signed a three-year, $73.5 million extension with his current team. Samuel has spent his first three years in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers.

Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers, Agree to Contract
The 2022 NFL off-season has been as insane as any. The insanity continues following the news about All-Pro receiver/running back/offensive weapon Deebo Samuel. Samuel was drafted by the 49ers in the second round of the 2019 Draft at 36th overall out of South Carolina in a weaker receiver class. He was the third receiver selected and was a massive steal at 36.
His rookie year saw Samuel appear in 15 games and recorded 802 yards and three touchdowns off of 57 receptions. On the ground, he ran the ball 14 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns. His first multi-touchdown game came in Week 2 as he ran for a pair of touchdowns and caught one against the Cincinnati Bengals en route to a 41-17 thrashing. Samuel was integral to the 49ers Super Bowl run as he averaged over 14 yards a touch.
In 2020, Samuel was marred with injuries. In total, he appeared in just seven games. That seventh game was in Week 13 where he made the start and left after the first snap. Samuel started the year on Injured Reserve due to a non-football injury (foot fracture). When he returned in Week 4, he turned 16 receptions into 185 yards and a touchdown and six rushing attempts for 14 yards and a touchdown over the course of four games. He was then inactive, on the COVID list, and inactive over the next three weeks. Samuel came back after the bye week and went off for 133 yards off of 11 receptions. Two weeks later, he left the game after one play and his season was over, ending with 391 yards and a touchdown off of 33 receptions.
His All-Pro 2021 season is likely why the 49ers and Samuel are in the predicament they are in. Across the entire year, Samuel played in 16 games and racked up 1770 yards and 14 touchdowns on 136 touches. On eight occasions, Samuel went over 100 all-purpose yards. In three games, Samuel found the endzone multiple times. As a whole, he led the NFL in yards per reception; third in yards per touch, all-purpose yards, scrimmage yards; fourth in yards per game; fifth in reception yards. He was a true offensive weapon for San Francisco and he believes he has earned a top-of-the-market contract.
