Kelvin Beachum Re-Signs with Arizona Cardinals
Kelvin Beachum contributed to what was a good year for the Arizona Cardinals offensive line. PFF graded the unit as the 12th best in the NFL. Starting all 16 regular season games at Right Tackle after Marcus Gilbert opted out, Beachum finished with a pass-blocking grade above 75.0. Furthermore, he ranked fourth amongst offensive linemen with 41 total points added (TPA). However, penalties were a constant issues for the group. Beachum himself committed six penalties on the season, including three false starts.
Kelvin Beachum’s move to the Cardinals came on the back of a solid stretch with the New York Jets. His final year in in New York in 2019 saw him play and start in 13 games. It was the only year of three wherein Beachum did not start in all 16 regular season games after becoming the team’s starting Left Tackle in 2017. A highlight of his tenure with the Jets was his nomination for the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2018.
Beachum’s 2016 consisted of a short stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Named starting Left Tackle at the beginning of the season, he endured a tough year personally. An early season concussion knocked him out of one game in Week 3 before returning for the following game. Overall, he surrendered 49 quarterback pressures in 15 games, ranking 11th-most amongst offensive tackles in 2016. He became a free agent when the Jaguars chose to decline his fourth-year option.
Prior to Jacksonville, spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh drafted him 248th overall out of SMU in 2012, despite concerns about his 6’3 height and playing tackle. Beachum endured two years as a backup before becoming a starter in 2014. Unfortunately, after declining a contract extension in 2015, Beachum played just six games before tearing his ACL in what was to be his final game for the Steelers.
