Breaking: Chargers Bring In Potential Rashawn Slater Replacement

There is no replacing superstar left tackle Rashawn Slater, but the Los Angeles Chargers may have honed in on a potential stopgap in free agent Cameron Fleming. A fourth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Stanford product bounced around the league, spending time with the New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Denver Broncos.

According to a recent report by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Chargers recently brought Cameron Fleming in for a visit. The NFL insider also notes that the veteran tackle has also visited with the Washington Commanders.

Chargers Could Sign Cameron Fleming to Replace Rashawn Slater

Fleming spent the 2024 season with the Denver Broncos but only appeared in one game. His last season as a full-time starter came in 2022 when he started and appeared in 15 games. Protecting Russell Wilson, the offensive tackle finished the season with a 72.6 PFF grade, the 33rd-best mark out of 140 eligible players.

While the Chargers have yet to sign Cameron Fleming, it’s easy to see why the team could be interested. Following Rashawn Slater’s season-ending injury, Jim Harbaugh’s squad will try to re-shuffle the offensive line and create a unit capable of supporting a strong run game and keeping Justin Herbert upright.

Fleming will not start, but he could provide some much-needed depth for this roster. First-round pick Joe Alt looked like one of the game’s top tackles last year, and he will likely move to the left side with Slater done for the season. This leaves Trey Pipkins as the top option at right tackle, but Fleming and guard Jamaree Salyer could fight for that spot if Pipkins struggles with the added responsibilities of the position.
