Brandin Cooks, New Orleans Saints, Agree to Contract
The 2024 season was one to forget for the speedy Brandin Cooks. Battling age and injuries all season long, the one-time deep threat played in just 10 games and finished the year with just 26 receptions for 259 yards and three touchdowns. The yards and receptions marked career lows, while the three touchdowns were his fewest since 2019.
Brandin Cooks originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Selected by the New Orleans Saints, the Oregon State product appeared in 10 games as a rookie and established himself as a dangerous big-play threat. During his inaugural season, Cooks recorded 53 receptions for 550 yards and three touchdowns.
Cooks built on this promising season by earning a full-time role in 2015. Serving as one of the top weapons in Drew Brees’ offense, the wideout finished the season with 84 receptions for 1,138 yards and nine touchdowns and followed it up with 78 receptions for 1,173 yards and eight touchdowns in 2016.
Despite three strong years with the team, New Orleans traded Cooks to the Patriots for a first-round pick. Helping Tom Brady win his third MVP, the wide receiver finished his lone year in New England with 65 receptions for 1,082 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Patriots proceeded to trade him to the Los Angeles Rams and he immediately had a home in Sean McVay’s offense. As the team’s top deep threat, Cooks recorded 80 receptions for 1,204 yards and five touchdowns in 2018. Unfortunately, concussions limited his efficiency in 2019 and the Rams traded him to the Houston Texans following the 2019 season.
Since signing his rookie contract, Brandin Cooks has played in 158 games for four separate teams. While on the field, the Oregon State product has recorded 710 receptions for 9,532 yards and 60 touchdowns.
