History-Making Former Chiefs Star Raises Eyebrows After Former Teammate’s Announcement

The Kansas City Chiefs are marching towards another postseason berth and, they hope, another Super Bowl victory. It would be their third straight and fourth with quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid at the helm.

One player from their first SB run – wide receiver Tyreek Hill, now of the Miami Dolphins – recently caused a stir with a post on social media.

Ex-Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill Raises Eyebrows With Cryptic Post

Tyreek Hill Stirs Pot Among Fans

“It’s time for me to go coach,” Hill posted on X on December 18.

Reactions to Hill’s post from fans flowed in quickly, and the tone was as one might expect when the NFL’s No. 1 player – according to the Top 100 Players List, which Hill was the first wide receiver in league history to headline – makes such cryptic comments.

There was understandably some confusion among the group, with Hill providing no context along with his thoughts.

“Like you telling your coach you need to go or are you saying you need to go be a coach,” one fan asked on X in Hills replies.

“A comma makes a different statement,” said another.

Others took the opportunity to rib Hill, who has engaged with fans in the past and has a past that makes for easy fodder.

“Hahaha!! I guess you’re not really good unless Patrick is throwing to you,” another fan said.

Dolphins fans certainly did not seem to appreciate the nebulous nature of the post.

“It’s always f****** something with this team,” said yet another fan in Hill’s mentions.

Potential Context for Ex-Chiefs WR Tyreek Hill’s X Post

Hill’s post comes on the heels of former teammate and Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater announcing his plans to return to the NFL next season. Bridgewater retired at the end of the 2023 season after spending the campaign with the Dolphins.

Bridgewater spent this season coaching high school football, leading his alma mater to a state championship in Year 1.

He says he plans to play next season and return to coaching high school ball in the offseason.

Chiefs fans will remember Bridgewater from his 2021 season with the Denver Broncos. But the former Minnesota Vikings first-round pick has also played for the Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions, and New Orleans Saints.

Could Tyreek Hill End Up Back With Chiefs?

With the possibility that Hill is indeed looking for a change, could he end up back in a Chiefs uniform? In a word: No.

Hill signed a three-year, $90 million contract extension that runs his contract through the 2026 season. But that is also the first season the Dolphins would see any savings from moving on from the eight-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro playmaker.

And, to be honest, with all that the Chiefs have endured this season, they might not need him.

Mahomes has already adapted to his weapons, with a speedster in rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy. And they have replaced the injured Rashee Rice with De’Andre Hopkins.

It is far from a perfect setup, but that is where Mahomes makes the difference. The bigger concern for the Chiefs is the ankle injury that he suffered in Week 15. However, Mahomes practiced in full on Wednesday and, if he follows suit the rest of the way, should be good to go.
