Bills Trade Up

3-Time All-Pro Hints At Major Draft Trade

After parting ways with Stefon Diggs, some believe the Buffalo Bills will try to trade up and select a new star wide receiver. There is a case to be made for such a move, as Buffalo has 10 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft and three picks in the first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. Curtis Samuel, Khalil Shakir, and Dalton Kincaid are all reliable options, but Buffalo will probably need a legitimate star to take down the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens, and the up-and-coming Houston Texans.

While nobody knows exactly what Brandon Bean and company will do on draft day, edge defender Von Miller seems to believe that the Bills will trade up for a wide receiver. In a recent post on the three-time All-Pro’s Instagram story, Miller made it sound like a trade up was a foregone conclusion.

Von Miller Hints That Bills Will Trade Up In 2024 NFL Draft

There are plenty of reasons to believe the Bills could trade up, but we should take Von Miller’s story with a grain of salt. For one, Miller is not Brandon Beane and ultimately has no say in such a decision. Secondly, Miller has made roster predictions in the past and he’s not exactly the most accurate oracle.

There is a case to be made that the Bills should trade up in the NFL Draft, but there is an even stronger one to be made that they should trade down. While Buffalo has 10 picks, only two are in the first three rounds. With Josh Allen’s cap hit exploding, the Bills should try as much high-level cost-controlled talent as possible through the NFL Draft. With this in mind, Buffalo should be more than willing to trade their first- and fifth-round picks for second- and third-round selections.

However, for the sake of argument, let’s assume that the Bills plan to trade up. If they do this, they’ll need to find somebody willing to trade down. In no particular order, these are the most likely suitors.

Possible Trade Partners

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are the first team that could consider a trade up with the Buffalo Bills. With the first three teams in the NFL Draft destined to select quarterbacks and the Arizona Cardinals already having six picks in the top 100, none of those teams are likely to move away from an elite prospect. The Chargers, however, have holes throughout their roster, and head coach Jim Harbaugh reportedly wants to trade back and take an offensive tackle. Buffalo would need to send a Godfather offer to get Los Angeles to fall this far back in the draft, but the idea of pairing Josh Allen with Malik Nabers might be too good to ignore.

Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have two top-10 picks in the 2024 NFL Draft, but only two additional selections in the rest of the class. They’d probably love to trade back and add some more picks, and the Bills would love to trade up to the ninth overall pick. Chances are, Rome Odunze will still be on the board at this point, as his elite route running ability would be a natural fit for Joe Brady’s offense.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints typically trade up, but they might be willing to move back with the Buffalo Bills. With Ryan Ramczyk’s health in question, New Orleans needs to find two reliable tackles if they want Derek Carr to survive the 2024 season. Right now, they only have two picks in the first four rounds, so unless they want to use both of their high picks on the same position, they should trade back and accumulate as many picks as possible.
