Jawaan Taylor Signs Contract With Kansas City Chiefs

NFL veteran offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor signed a new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Taylor, a former second-round pick, spent the entirety of his professional career with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jawaan Taylor, Kansas City Chiefs, Agree to Contract

Offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor enters free agency after what could quite possibly be the best season of his young career. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the right tackle helped keep Trevor Lawrence upright and helped bring the team to the postseason for the first time since the 2017 season. While they eventually fell to the Kansas City Chiefs, they also played one of the most memorable games of the tournament, erasing a 27-point deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jawaan Taylor originally entered the NFL as a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Florida product stayed in his collegiate state and immediately won a starting job on Week 1. While he started the season blocking for Nick Foles, the Super Bowl MVP suffered a collarbone injury in Week 1, and Gardner Minshew took over from there. While Minshew showed some signs of life, the team still finished last in the AFC South.

Taylor retained his role in 2020 and continued to do his best to keep the Jaguars winning. Unfortunately, there’s only so much a tackle can do, and Jacksonville finished with a 1-15 record and the first-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The team selected Trevor Lawrence and hired head coach Urban Meyer, but they still weren’t ready to compete. In 2021, Taylor started all 17 games at right tackle and, as one of the only good players on the team, held no blame for Jacksonville’s atrocious 3-14 record that earned them the first-overall pick for the second consecutive year.

Since signing his rookie contract, Jawaan Taylor has started all 66 games of his professional career.
