Gerald Everett Signs Deal With Los Angeles Chargers

Everett set career highs in 2021 with the Seahawks as their primary tight end, albeit not by much. He finished with 48 catches for 478 yards and four touchdowns in 15 games. He might have put up higher numbers in an offense that relied on tight ends more. Still, he will look to continue to his trend upwards over the last few years.

Everett played football in high school at Columbia High in Decatur, Georgia in his senior year. Then he initially played football in college at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, but after their football program was shut down he transferred to the University of South Alabama where he played from 2015 to 2016, where he made First-Team All-Sun Belt in both seasons.

He was drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, where he remained through 2020. He spent most of his time there sharing snaps with Tyler Higbee, which put a ceiling on his stats. However, his reception and receiving yard stats improved over each consecutive year (a trend that continued when he signed with the Seahawks in 2021), going from 16 catches for 244 yards in 2017 to 41 catches for 417 yards in 2020.

Everett’s highlight game of his career would likely be catching two touchdowns in the fourth quarter of the classic 54-51 shootout in 2018 against the Kansas City Chiefs. His first 100-yard game was in 2019 on Thursday Night Football against the Seattle Seahawks. He played in Super Bowl LIII against the New England Patriots, but only had one target and no receptions.

Everett thus far in his career has 175 receptions for 1,867 yards and 12 touchdowns, as well as one rushing touchdown.
