Matt Breida Signs With the Buffalo Bills

Longtime NFL running back Matt Breida is no longer a free agent. The former undrafted free agent spent 2020 with the Miami Dolphins.

Longtime NFL veteran running back Matt Breida signed a one-year, contract with the Buffalo Bills. Breida spent the 2020 season with the Miami Dolphins and has also played for the San Francisco 49ers. Breida adds a much needed speed component to the Bills running back depth chart.

Matt Breida, Buffalo Bills, Agree to Contract

Breida signed his RFA contract, of one year and $3,259,000, with the San Fransisco 49ers on April 16th, 2020. However, the 49ers traded Breida to the Miami Dolphins for a 2020 fifth-round pick nine days later at the 2020 NFL Entry Draft. The 49ers; subsequently, drafted Offensive Tackle Colton McKivitz with the pick. In 12 games with the Dolphins, Breida rushed 59 times for 254 yards. Breida; also, received nine times for 96 yards. Breida was put on the reserve/COVID 19-list on December 4th. The Dolphins activated Breida off the list two weeks later. The Dolphins; however, did not make the playoffs.

The 49ers signed Breida as an undrafted free agent on May 4th, 2017. During the 2017-18 season, Breida rushed 105 times for 465 yards, with 2 touchdowns. Breida; also, received 21 times for 180 yards with one touchdown. Breida played all 16 games. The 49ers; however, did not make the playoffs. In the 2018-19 season, Breida rushed 153 times for 814 yards for three touchdowns. As well, Breida received 27 times for 261 yards with two touchdowns. Breida played in 14 games; however, the 49ers missed the playoffs. Breida suffered an ankle sprain in November; consequently, leading him to miss three games. In 13 games, Breida rushed 123 times for 623 yards with one touchdown. Breida received 19 times for 120 yards with one touchdown. Breida; subsequently, in three playoff games had rushed nine times for 19 yards. The 49ers; however, lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Superbowl.

Breida played college football with the Georgia Southern Eagles. Breida was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year in 2014; and furthermore, was also named to the 2014 and 2015 All-Sun Belt First Teams.

Breida played high school football at Nature Coast Technical in Brooksville Florida. Breida; furthermore, won district player of the year and team MVP.
