Corey Davis Signs With New York Jets

Four-year NFL veteran wide receiver Corey Davis signed a three-year, $37.5 million deal with the New York Jets. Davis, a former first-round pick, spent the entirety of his NFL career to date with the Tennessee Titans. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke news of the signing.

Davis is coming off what might just be his best season as a professional. While he certainly had some streaky moments, the wide receiver finished the 2020 season with 65 receptions on 92 targets for 984 yards and five touchdowns. The yards and touchdowns were career-highs, while the receptions tied his career-high from 2018. However, it’s worth noting that Davis did this all in 14 games and almost certainly would’ve hit the 1,000-yard mark had he not suffered an injury. Unfortunately, Davis finished his season on a low note, failing to record a single reception on two targets.

Davis initially entered the NFL as the fifth-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the Tennessee Titans, the Western Michigan product had a slow start to his NFL career. Overall, Davis recorded just 34 receptions for 375 yards in 11 regular season games. However, the rookie showed some signs of life in the playoffs, recording five receptions for 63 yards and two touchdowns in Tennessee’s divisional round loss to the New England Patriots.

Finally healthy, Davis took a major leap during his second year in the league. Appearing and starting in all 16 games, Davis finished his second season with 65 receptions for 891 yards and four touchdowns on a whopping 112 targets. Unfortunately, Davis couldn’t carry that momentum into 2019, as the former top-five pick recorded just 43 receptions for 601 yards and two touchdowns while splitting time with Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill under center.

Entering the 2021 season, Corey Davis has recorded 207 receptions for 2,851 yards and 11 touchdowns on 338 career targets.
