Veteran running back Mark Ingram has signed a new deal with the Houston Texans. Ingram recorded his fewest rushing yards in a single season in 2020 with the Baltimore Ravens. He started the season as the favorite to lead the Ravens backfield for the second year in a row but an injury forced him to miss three games midseason. After returning to the lineup, Ingram totaled just 22 rushing attempts over his last five games. The 2009 Heisman winner turned 31 years old this past December.

Ingram began his career with the New Orleans Saints where he became the ninth running back in franchise history to be picked in the first round. The 2011 28th-overall pick would go on to spend eight seasons with the Saints totaling 200+ rushing attempts in three separate seasons. His highest rushing total came in 2017 when he rushed for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 48 receptions for another 416 receiving yards. He was named to two Pro-Bowls as a member of the Saints

In 2019, Ingram signed a two-year deal with the Ravens. There, he teamed up with Lamar Jackson and Gus Edwards to become part of the NFL’s most successful rushing offense of all-time. Baltimore’s 3,296 yards on the ground set the NFL record for most rushing yards in a single season. The Ravens led the league in rushing yards per game and total points while Ingram scored the most touchdowns of his career in a single season. His 15 total touchdowns and 1,018 rushing yards got him named to his third Pro Bowl in 2019.

Ingram strained his calf Week 15 of that season and has since, hit the roughest patch of his career. Despite returning to the Ravens as the teams lead-running back, he totaled career lows in each rushing attempts and rushing yards in 2020. Injuries and a brief stint of the COVID-IR took him out of the lineup multiple times before eventually falling out of favor in the Ravens running back room. Ingram was a healthy scratch in both of Baltimore’s 2020 playoff games.
