New England Patriots To Sign Jordan Leggett, Darius Kilgo

According to various reports, the New England Patriots are expected to sign tight end Jordan Leggett and defensive tackle Darius Kilgo to one-year deals. Leggett, a Clemson product, spent the first three years of his career with the New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kilgo, meanwhile, has played for the Denver Broncos and Tennessee Titans but has yet to make a start.

This move comes after tight end Matt LaCosse opted out of the 2020 NFL season. LaCosse spent 2019 with the New England Patriots and projected as the top tight end on the team, at least entering the season. Without LaCosse, rookie tight ends Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene would have battled incumbent Ryan Izzo for playing time. Leggett will join in that battle, although he’s no sure thing to make the roster.

Leggett spent the 2019 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After competing throughout camp, the former fifth-round pick couldn’t make the 53-man roster out of camp and started the year on the practice squad. The team eventually promoted him to the active roster but didn’t make it into any games. Eventually, the team parted ways with Leggett on July 30th, 2020.

Jordan Leggett initially entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Selected by the New York Jets, the Clemson product had a chance to immediately earn a starting job following a four-game suspension for incumbent Austin Seferian-Jenkins. However, Leggett suffered a knee injury during the preseason and had to undergo season-ending surgery. Leggett returned to the field in 2018 and played in 15 games while making four starts. During his time on the field, the second-year pro recorded 14 receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown on 24 targets. Six of his targets went for first downs and he averaged 4.8 yards-per-target.
