Philadelphia Eagles Trade for Marquise Goodwin

After three seasons, the San Francisco 49ers have traded wideout Marquise Goodwin and a sixth-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in order to move up in the draft.

Philadelphia Eagles Land Marquise Goodwin in Trade

On a day when countless teams have traded assets to acquire picks and players, the Philadelphia Eagles decided to throw their hat into the mix. The Eagles and 49ers have agreed to a trade in principle that would send wideout Marquise Goodwin and a sixth-round pick to Philly in exchange for another sixth-round pick. The Eagles went into the weekend looking to find more weapons to place around star quarterback Carson Wentz and that’s exactly what they did. On the flip side, this trade allows the 49ers to move up 20 spots in the sixth-round.

Over the last three seasons, Goodwin has been a solid receiver for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, with his best year coming in 2017. He did struggle in 2018 and 2019, which ultimately ended up with him being at the center of trade negotiations. The Eagles are likely hoping they can get him back playing at an elite level with a scenery change.

On the flip side, the 49ers made this move in order to move up in the sixth-round and select a player whom they have their eyes on. While it’s not certain who the team will target, they must feel confident they are worth giving up a proven wideout and a pick to draft.

The Eagles receiving core struggled last year and dropped nearly 600 yards worth of receptions. Adding a wideout like Goodwin should make the group instantly better.  Giving Wentz a new target to throw to could be just the move the Eagles need to make to assert themselves as playoff contenders once again. If Goodwin can find success in Philly, this trade could look like a steal from the Eagles perspective.
