Veteran wide receiver Danny Amendola has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions. He’ll remain with the team now until 2021. Amendola, who has been in the league since 2008, spent the 2019 season with the Lions as well.

Danny Amendola Back With Detroit Lions

Danny Amendola had something of a bounce-back season in 2019 after a mildly down season in 2018. He finished with 62 receptions for 678 yards, having the second best yardage number of his career. He had one touchdown as well.

Amendola played college football with Texas Tech. He went undrafted in 2008, and initially spent time on the practice squads of the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles before finally making his way onto the active roster of the Los Angeles Rams (then St. Louis). He stayed there through 2012. His best season came in 2010 when he had 85 catches for 689 yards and three touchdowns. He also had his best year as a returner in 2009 when he had 1,978 return yards combined.

He signed with the New England Patriots in 2013 and stayed there through 2017, where he was part of two Super Bowl teams and gained more recognition. His level of contribution with the Patriots was all over the place, ranging from has high as 659 yards to as low as 200 yards. He then went to the Miami Dolphins in 2018 before joining the Lions in 2019.

Amendola has made his living primarily as a slot receiver, but not necessarily one of the more prolific ones stats-wise. Most of his seasons have fallen in the 600-yard range. A lot of the ones that haven’t were due to injury-shortened seasons. Still, he’s been valuable enough to hang around for eleven years in the league.

Thus far in his career he has 547 receptions for 5,362 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also has 3,575 kick return yards and 1,821 punt return yards, albeit no touchdowns on either side.
