Fantasy Football Week 12 Quarterback Waiver Wire Claims: Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, More

11 weeks of NFL play are officially in the books, which means bye weeks are in full swing. Gone are the days where you could just coast by on a strong draft. Now more than ever, you’ll need to search the waiver wire for all the best available quarterbacks. Heading into Week 12, you should set your eyes on Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, and Derek Carr.

Note that in order to make this list, the player had to be available in over 50% of fantasy leagues. If you’re in smaller leagues, there may be better players available. Make sure to check your waivers to see if there are any diamonds in the rough before submitting your claims.

Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold Highlight Fantasy Football Week 12 Quarterback Waiver Wire Claims

Baker Mayfield

Reports of Baker Mayfield’s demise have been highly exaggerated. The former first overall pick recorded three total touchdowns on Thursday Night Football and hasn’t turned the ball over since Week 8 against the New England Patriots. Mayfield is starting to develop chemistry with Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry, and he should finish the year looking like his 2018 self.

Baker is starting to play well, and his strong play should continue into Week 12. The Browns face off against a horrible Miami Dolphins team which just allowed Josh Allen to throw for three touchdowns. Mayfield and company should be able to move the ball up and down the field at ease. Look for Mayfield to have the best game of his season while putting up a QB1 performance.

Sam Darnold

The 2018 quarterback draft class is starting to bounce back after slow starts. While Mayfield has strung together multiple weeks of solid play, Sam Darnold is starting to play up to his draft pedigree. Going up against an admittedly poor Washington Redskins defense, Darnold ended his night with 293 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. While he’s still something of a work-in-progress as an NFL quarterback, he’s good enough to tear apart a weak defense.

Darnold faces off against said weak defense in Week 12. The Oakland Raiders have one of the worst secondaries in the league and don’t appear to have an answer for Jamison Crowder, Demaryius Thomas, or Robby Anderson. Darnold isn’t going to be the top quarterback on the week, but he’s a smart stream who could end the week as a low-end QB1.

Derek Carr

Derek Carr is never going to light the world on fire, but he’s capable of giving you a solid fantasy outing without ruining your chances of victory. The Oakland Raiders quarterback is in the midst of a solid season, but he doesn’t have the passing volume to be one of the top fantasy quarterbacks in the league. Still, Carr has a favorable matchup against the New York Jets and should be able to rack up yards in a game that has a decent shot of being a high-scoring affair. If you’re looking for a high-ceiling streamer, look somewhere else. However, if you’re looking for a safe, reliable play, go grab Derek Carr.
