13-year NFL running back Darren Sproles has reportedly agreed to a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. The exact financial value of this deal is not yet known, but Sproles should remain in Philadelphia throughout his age-36 season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter first broke the news.

Philadelphia Eagles Sign Darren Sproles to One-Year Deal

Sproles is no stranger to Philadelphia, as the former fourth-round pick has been a member of the Eagles ever since the 2014 season. Sproles played six games for Philadelphia in 2018, recording 29 carries for 120 yards and one touchdown to go along with 15 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, Sproles struggled to stay on the field throughout the course of the campaign.

Sproles initially entered the league as a fourth-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. Selected by the San Diego Chargers, Sproles spent the majority of his early career behind the running back duo of LaDainian Tomlinson and Michael Turner. During his five years in San Deigo, Sproles recorded 1,154 rushing yards and six touchdowns to go along with 146 receptions for 1,400 yards and 11 receiving scores.

Sproles signed with the New Orleans Saints prior to the 2011 season and immediately had the best year of his career. Replacing Reggie Bush in the offense, Sproles recorded 603 rushing yards and two touchdowns to go along with 86 receptions for 710 yards and seven touchdowns. His performance was a big reason Drew Brees broke the all-time single-season passing record in 2011. Sproles spent two more years in New Orleans, recording a combined 1,067 rushing yards, 232 receptions, 1,981 receiving yards, and a combined 21 touchdowns.

Sproles enters 2019 as a three-time Pro Bowl selection and a one-time Super Bowl champion. Throughout the course of his career, the do-it-all back has recorded 3,486 rushing yards, 547 receptions, 4,816 receiving yards, and a combined 55 touchdowns. He’s also an accomplished kick and punt returner with nine career special team scores to his name.
