C.J. Mosley Expected to Sign With New York Jets

C.J. Mosley is going to once again be one of the league's premier linebackers and prove he is worth his new contract if he remains healthy.

The former 16th overall pick and five-year Baltimore Ravens middle linebacker C.J. Mosley has signed a new contract with the (team). Mosley was perhaps the best interior linebacker in the 2019 free agent class and has been rewarded with a five-year, $85 million contract.

Since being selected out of Alabama in 2014, Mosley has gone to four Pro Bowls and been named second-team All-Pro four times in the same four years. He brings a veteran presence and versatility that only a select few linebackers can replicate.

Mosley had perhaps the biggest play of the Ravens season in 2018 and will be looking to continually lead by example in 2019.

C.J. Mosley, New York Jets Agree to Contract

Mosley has been the picture of consistency since he entered the league as a rookie. He’s one of the league’s best tacklers, a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and rarely misses games. Since entering the league in 2014, Mosley has only missed a total of three games and has finished in the top 10 in tackles in two of his three full seasons. He has also added nine picks, 35 pass defenses, 8.5 sacks, 43 tackles for loss, and five fumbles recovered.

As a Raven, Mosley has played beside a variety of different linebackers and all have, not coincidentally, been great. Daryl Smith‘s career had a resurgence beside Mosley in 2014, and Zach Orr and Patrick Onwuasor went from undrafted free agents to household names during standout career years. Of the defenses Mosley has been a part of at the pro level, none have finished lower than 12th in total yards against and only one (2015) has finished outside the top-10 in points allowed on the year.

Last Word

Despite the new contract, Mosley had perhaps his worst season as an NFL pro in 2018. He suffered a bone bruise during the Ravens week two loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and looked to have lost a step in his speed as the season continued. The injury only held Mosley out for one additional game but could be a concern moving into 2019.

If the injury doesn’t linger, Mosley is going to once again be one of the league’s premier linebackers and prove he is worth his new contract.
