Report: Terrell Suggs Will Sign With Arizona Cardinals

Terrell Suggs is one of the league's longest-tenured players and will now be entering his 17th season of NFL action. He is the NFL's active leader in sacks.

The 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year will be back for another season as it was announced Terrell Suggs is expected to sign a new contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Suggs was drafted with the Ravens 10th overall pick in 2003 and has since played every one of his 229 games for his 16-year career in Baltimore.

Suggs is one of the league’s longest-tenured players and will now be entering his 17th season of NFL action. After the retirement of Julius Peppers, Suggs became the NFL’s active leader in sacks with 132.5. He currently sits tied with Leslie O’Neal and Lawrence Taylor for 13th all-time in sacks.

Terrell Suggs to Sign With Arizona Cardinals

Suggs had a successful 2018 season, registering seven sacks, 15 quarterback hits, 13 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and six past deflections. His seven sacks were his least for a season in which he played more than eight games since 2009. In addition, only 1.5 came after week seven. However, Suggs did put up six of his QB hits in his last five games.

Suggs first entered the league as Baltimore’s first-round pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. Appearing in 229 career games, Suggs has recorded 132.5 sacks, 854 tackles, and 33 forced fumbles throughout his NFL career. His best season came in 2011 when he recorded 14 sacks, earned First-Team All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

There isn’t much left for Suggs to accomplish in the NFL. Alongside his DPOY award, he is a Super Bowl champion, Defensive Rookie of the Year, a seven-time Pro-Bowler, one-time first team and one-time second team All-Pro, and scored his first NFL touchdown in a week 12 blowout of the Oakland Raiders. His durability is also something that gets overlooked at his age. Since his rookie season, Suggs has only missed one start of the 213 games he’s played and 27 games in those 15 years. The last game he missed was week seven of the 2016 season.
