Four-year veteran cornerback Kevin Johnson is expected to sign with the Buffalo Bills, pending a final review of the contract. Johnson, a Wake Forest product, spent the past four seasons with the Houston Texans.

Kevin Johnson Expected to Sign With Bills
Kevin Johnson’s 2018 season ended before it ever really began. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, Johnson started the season as Houston’s starting cornerback. However, the former first-round pick suffered a concussion in Houston’s Week One loss to the New England Patriots. Johnson landed on the injured reserve following the game, ending his season after just one week of play. Houston had a fifth-year option for Johnson but opted not to pick it up.
Johnson initially entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. Selected 16th overall, Johnson appeared in all 16 games as a rookie, starting 10. During his rookie season, Johnson recorded 52 tackles, nine passes defended, and one interception. Johnson started 2016 as Houston’s third cornerback but earned a starting role after three games. Making six appearances on the season, Johnson recorded 21 tackles and three passes defended before going down with a season-ending foot injury.
In his return from injury, Johnson battled incumbent Kareem Jackson for the starting job opposite Johnathan Joseph. While he started the season as the third cornerback on the depth chart, Johnson still appeared in 12 games while making four starts. During his truncated season, Johnson recorded 45 tackles and two passes defended. While he finished the season on the active roster, Johnson missed four weeks of action with a sprained MCL.
Johnson spent his collegiate years with Wake Forest. Earning a spot on the team as a true freshman, Johnson appeared in 11 games and made five starts. After missing a season due to academic shortcomings, Johnson returned to the field for his final three years of eligibility. Over the course of his collegiate career, Johnson recorded 189 tackles and seven interceptions.
