Five-year NFL veteran running back Carlos Hyde signed a one year deal worth just under $3 million with the Kansas City Chiefs. As of this posting, the exact guarantees and incentives are unknown. Hyde, an Ohio State product, spent the 2018 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Cleveland Browns.

Hyde started off the 2018 season with the Cleveland Browns. Playing in six games, Hyde recorded 382 yards and five touchdowns on 114 rushing attempts with Cleveland. Cleveland sent Hyde to the Jaguars in exchange for a fifth-round pick, and the fifth-year running back recorded 189 yards on 58 carries in Jacksonville.

Hyde initially entered the NFL as a second-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2014 NFL Draft. Appearing in 14 games as a rookie, Hyde recorded 333 yards and four touchdowns on 83 carries while serving as second-fiddle to incumbent Frank Gore.

Given the starting job entering 2015, Hyde recorded 115 carries for 470 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately for Hyde, the second-year running back suffered a stress fracture in his foot, prematurely ending his season after just seven games. Hyde returned to the starters’ role in 2016, recording 988 yards and six touchdowns on 217 rushing attempts while playing in 13 games. Hyde played in all 16 games during his 2017 contract year, recording 938 yards and eight touchdowns on 240 rushing attempts.

Throughout the course of his career, Hyde recorded 3,300 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns on 827 carries. Additionally, Hyde has also compiled 667 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 119 receptions.

Hyde was one of four members of the Jacksonville Jaguars released on Friday. In addition to the running back, Jacksonville also released Malik Jackson, Tashaun Gipson, and Jermey Parnell. With Hyde out of the picture, Jacksonville currently only has Leonard Fournette on their running back depth chart.
