Reports were that the Jaguars were trying to keep Colvin as their primary slot-cornerback. Due to allocating money elsewhere, the Texans saw their shot and took it.

Aaron Colvin was drafted by the Jaguars in the fourth round or the 2014 NFL draft. Colvin was still recovering from a pre-draft knee surgery and therefore did not make his NFL debut until November of the 2014 season. In his second NFL game, he recovered a fumble and took it 41 yards for a go-ahead touchdown.

Colvin entered the 2016 season with a four-game suspension for a violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policies. He played in a total of 10 games before an ankle injury placed him on injured-reserve.

Colvin was the third cornerback on the Jaguars depth chart behind Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye. For the 2017 season, he played in all 16 games with five starts and recorded 45 tackles.

Having shown promise as a dependable slot cornerback, Colvin, 26, will find a role with the Texans. The Texans seem to need all the defensive help they can find after being decimated by injury during the 2017 season. Furthermore, they finished the season ranking 20th in yards allowed and last in points allowed.

In a league where many offenses utilize three wide receiver sets, Colvin will bring some experience covering the slot. He has yet to record an interception at the NFL level, despite recording five in his collegiate career at Oklahoma.

Colvin is a strong and solid tackler. Pro Football Focus graded him with a score of 80.0. There’s no indication that the signing of Colvin ends the Texans search for help in the secondary.
