Lorenzo Alexander Re-Signs With the Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills signed Alexander to a one-year deal worth $885,000 on April 12, 2016. It proved to be one of the better value moves in free agency as Alexander put together a standout campaign. His 12.5 sacks tied for third-best in the league and exceeded the entire career sack total from his previous nine accrued seasons.

For his efforts, Alexander made his first Pro Bowl as a defensive player. He previously appeared in the game as a designated special teams performer for the Washington Redskins after the 2012 season. This time, he made the most of the opportunity, taking home defensive MVP honors after a performance that included nine tackles and an interceptions.

Alexander originally signed with the Carolina Panthers on April 29, 2005 after going undrafted. He remained on their practice squad for the entirety of his time there before being cut the following September. After stints with the Ravens and Redskins practice squads, Alexander’s first NFL action finally came with Washington in 2007.

The 33-year-old spent seven years in Washington but only made a total of 16 starts. 12 of those game during his Pro Bowl campaign of 2012. He made 32 tackles, forced 1.5 sacks and recovered a fumble that season.

In 2013, Alexander joined the Arizona Cardinals on a three-year, $9.5 million deal with $3 million guaranteed. But he played just three games during his first season with the Cards before a Lisfranc ligament injury placed him on season-ending injured reserve. Arizona released him ahead of the 2015 season with one year remaining on his contract.

A few days later, he signed a one-year, $870,000 contract with the Oakland Raiders. He spent a season there before joining the Bills.
