Breaking Down the Gus Bradley Firing

14-48. That’s the legacy Gus Bradley has left on the Jacksonville Jaguars. 14 wins in 62 games. Bradley’s tenure is historically awful, and the Jaguars’ front office finally had enough. Gus Bradley is the worst football head coach in the past 75 years. Shad Khan and Dave Caldwell showed extreme patience with Bradley and were repaid with the worst results in modern football history.

Breaking Down the Gus Bradley Firing

Too Little Too Late

Bradley’s firing is years too late and has set the franchise back tremendously as most believed the team had the talent to make a run at the playoffs by this season. Instead of the playoffs, the Jaguars are one of the three worst teams in the NFL with a 2-12 record. Bradley failed to develop players and showed little to no ability to come up with a good scheme on a weekly basis to win ball games. His team repeatedly found ways to lose games or simply seemed unprepared to compete for 60 minutes. Jacksonville has struggled for four years to start games off well, and for the rare occasion that the team is still in the game in the second half, the Jaguars could seldom make the adjustments needed at halftime to win.

Bradley’s firing is too little too late but greatly appreciated by the fans who have rightly expressed their frustrations through booing throughout the duration of the 2016 season. Dave Caldwell and Shad Khan made a mistake in hiring Gus Bradley, but the duo’s biggest mistake was continuing to sit back as Bradley led this team into the ground year after year. Bradley’s upbeat attitude and infectious charisma may have made clouded Caldwell’s and Khan’s decision to fire him but that is unacceptable. Regardless of how peachy and charming Bradley’s words were, Khan and Caldwell should have only paid attention to the results that took place on the field week after week. Players for the most part either regressed or continually made the same mistakes week in and week out.

Fans Suffering

The fans suffered heavily the past four years under Gus Bradley. They believed in the hope and promise of the team, but were continually presented with putrid football. Whoever the new head coach ends up being, there’s little to no reason to expect him to be worse than literally the worst head coach in NFL history. So for once in the past four years, Jaguars’ fans finally have some real hope to believe in. Unfortunately, they’ve had to wait four long, dreadful years to finally achieve that.
