The Edmonton Oilers are expected to sign free-agent forward Dominik Kahun to a one-year contract worth $975,000. This contract carries him through the 2020-21 season. The news was initially reported from a german website, eishockeynews.de and confirmed by Elliotte Friedman.

Dominik Kahun to Sign with the Edmonton Oilers
Over his two-year NHL career, Kahun has played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Buffalo Sabres. He has put up 25 goals and 43 assists for 68 career points in 138 career games. Chicago signed him as an undrafted free agent after his time with EHC Red Bull München of the German Hockey League.
Last season he scored 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points in 56 games. He also added eight penalty minutes for the 2019-20 season. His possession numbers were 50.0 percent Corsi and a relative Corsi of -1.6.
Kahun suffered a concussion in January of this year that limited his time with the Penguins. The Plana, Czech Republic native was traded to Buffalo at the deadline for Conor Sheary and Evan Rodrigues. It’s the second trade of his career after he got sent to Pittsburgh from Chicago for Olli Maatta.
What This Means for the Future
Kahun became an unrestricted free agent after the Buffalo Sabres elected not to qualify him. All to the benefit of the Oilers. The Czech forward has double-digit goals in his two full seasons in the league and is a decent playmaker with skill. He is versatile and can play all three forward spots in the lineup. However, he is a bit undersized and might not be the strongest player.
He is a good middle-six forward that can offer some scoring potential. He is doing a better job trying to acquaint himself with the size of the North American ice sheet. The addition of Kahun to go along with Kyle Turris, as well as the return of Jesse Puljujarvi, should give the Oilers some much-needed depth scoring. These additions should help the Oilers return to playoff contention next season.
