It’s time for some more NHL rumours. We may be in the dead part of the offseason. However, there’s still plenty to discuss on the hot stove front. We still may see some deals go down this offseason. Training camps start in September and that could really ramp up talks. There are a few key restricted free agents that could be offer sheeted or traded for in the coming weeks.
One big ticket RFA that has yet to sign is Jason Robertson. This edition of NHL rumours deals with how the Pittsburgh Penguins could be interested in the high-scoring forward from the Dallas Stars.
All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

Analysis: Robertson seems to be the main prize for plenty of teams this offseason. We’ve seen the Seattle Kraken lay out a massive offer for the American forward. Clubs have been willing to give up plenty of assets to land the California native. Goalscorers like Robertson don’t often come available, so general managers are willing to do whatever it takes to get him.
One thing the Penguins have done is acquire Nicholas Robertson from the Toronto Maple Leafs. It may seem like a small transaction, but the lure of playing with a sibling doesn’t hurt.
We’ll start off Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman on a recent edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast. Friedman said that the Penguins and Stars have had conversations about Robertson. He also mentioned that the talks have been pretty serious. We could see Pittsburgh as a potential landing spot for the gifted goalscorer.
The Athletic’s Josh Yohe also stated that the young player would be happy to come to the Penguins. General manager Kyle Dubas knows the price would be high. However, adding Robertson that has players like Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby would be a good move. Malkin and Crosby are getting up there in age, but adding Robertson would give them a potential franchise cornerstone.
However, other insiders have weighed in on the possibility of Robertson heading to the Steel City. Let’s dive into this talk a little bit further in this edition of NHL rumours.

What It Means
Yohe gave his two cents on whether or not Robertson will be coming to the Penguins. The Penguins beat writer said the front office wanted to engage with the Stars in talks earlier. However, Yohe adds that Dallas general manager Jim Nill didn’t take these talks seriously. Dallas may take Pittsburgh a bit more seriously now that we’re deeper into the offseason.
The Penguins have had Roberston on their mind for at least the last few weeks. In an earlier article from Yohe, he sensed that the Penguins made a fair offer to get Robertson. However, the Stars indicated that they wanted to keep the young forward. Things might have changed between the publication of the two articles.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period also weighed in about his take on the situation. Pagnotta said that his mind keeps veering off to Pittsburgh. Take Pagnotta’s word with a grain of salt, but it means that three insiders have given their take on where Roberston may end up.
Robertson did file for salary arbitration and the Stars have indicated that they would love to keep him. Dallas will have to get a substantial offer in order to part ways with the budding superstar. However, Dubas has indicated that he would be willing to offer a substantial package in order to procure the services of the forward.
Stick with more NHL rumours as we continue through the offseason.
