Colorado Avalanche Sign Veteran Forward to 3-Year Deal

The Colorado Avalanche are adding a Stanley Cup winner to their ranks, as Jaden Schwartz signs with the Avs on a three-year deal worth $3.25 million per season. A solid deal for Schwartz, as even though his best days may be behind him, he is still capable of scoring 20 goals per season.

Jaden Schwartz Signs in Colorado on Cheap Deal

Schwartz scored 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points in 50 games last season with the Seattle Kraken. In 861 career games, he has recorded 233 goals, 320 assists for 553 points. At 34 years old, he is still a very effective player and can be very serviceable for the Avalanche.

The 5-foot-10 winger is coming off a five-year, $27.5 million contract that carried a cap hit of $5.5 million. He was drafted 14th overall by the St. Louis Blues in 2010 and won the Stanley Cup with them in 2019.

What It Means

Schwartz is known to be a two-way forward who excels in forechecking and winning board battles to create opportunities. He will be a solid depth forward in an organization already filled with depth who can play on the bottom six left winger position and can move up the lineup if needed. A versatile forward who can play on the special teams and contribute offensively and defensively.

After trading out the likes of Jack Drury, Schwartz is a solid replacement in the bottom six. Good work by Joe Sakic and crew here. The pressure is on the Avalanche to win another Stanley Cup, which would be their first since 2022. Colorado made the Western Conference Finals but were surprisingly swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in four consecutive games.

Schwartz is hoping to be part of the plan and help get the club over the hump and back into the Stanley Cup Final.
