NHL Predictions: March 19 w/ Winnipeg Jets vs New York Rangers

NHL predictions

With the large amount of games on tonight’s NHL schedule, it might be hard to know where to start. We at the Last Word on Hockey have helped narrow your focus to our best bets. This round of NHL Predictions will help condense the slate into three best bets and one prop bet of the night.

NHL Predictions

Ottawa Senators vs Boston Bruins

Head-to-Head: Senators 0-1 Bruins

TV: NESN; TSN5; ESPN+

Our opening game of NHL predictions has the Ottawa Senators playing the Boston Bruins. Ottawa is expected to go with Joonas Korpisalo in net, but always check social media before locking in a fantasy starter. The Senators are 3-6-1 in the last 10 games and are second-to-last in the East. Brady Tkachuk had another 30-goal season and Tim Stutzle has 47 assists.

Boston is expected to go with Linus Ullmark in the blue paint. The Bruins are 6-2-2 in the last 10 and have seemingly corrected things after a small slump. David Pastrnak is closing in on 100 points with 41 goals and 55 assists for the B’s. The Bruins are in the top 10 in goals for, goals allowed, power play efficiency and penalty kill success rate.

Boston is in a tight race for the President’s Trophy and it runs up against an Ottawa club struggling on many levels.

Prediction: Bruins win 4-1.

Winnipeg Jets vs New York Rangers

Head-to-Head: Jets 0-1 Rangers

TV: TSN3; MSG; ESPN+

Our featured game of NHL predictions has the Winnipeg Jets visiting the Big Apple to play the New York Rangers. Connor Hellebuyck is the projected starter in a potential heavyweight goalie matchup against Igor Shesterkin. Winnipeg’s offence has scored six goals in each of the last two games. The Jets are 6-4 in the last 10 and have won two in a row. Kyle Connor leads the club in goals wit 29.

The Rangers have gone 6-3-1 in the last 10 and also been victorious in the last two. New York has also netted 12 goals in the last two games thanks to its potent offence. Artemi Panarin leads the team in goals with 38 and assists with 56 as he tries to get a 100-point season. Always watch out for Mika Zibanejad in the month of March because his numbers are great during that month.

Both teams are identical coming into this one, but Winnipeg’s defence gives it the edge.

Prediction: Jets win 3-2.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Philadelphia Flyers

Head-to-Head: Maple Leafs 2-0 Flyers

TV: NBC Sports Philadelphia; TSN4; ESPN+

Our last game of NHL predictions has the Toronto Maple Leafs visiting the Philadelphia Flyers. Toronto is expected to go with Ilya Samsonov in between the pipes in the first-half of a back-to-back. The Leafs are 6-3-1, but let one get away from them against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night. Auston Matthews leads the league in goals 55 in his quest to track down 70 markers. Mitch Marner missed the last couple of games and could miss this game as well.

Samuel Ersson is expected to get the start for the Flyers, who are 4-5-1 in the last 10 games. Philadelphia’s defence has been troubling in their last three losses as its given up at least six goals in those setbacks. Travis Konecny is first in goals on the team with 27 while Travis Sanheim has 31 assists. The Flyers are feeling the heat with both the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders in striking distance.

It’s a big game for both, but Toronto’s firepower gets the team over the line.

Prediction: Maple Leafs win 5-2.

Prop Bet of the Night

Let’s stay with the last game of NHL predictions for the prop bet of the evening. We like Matthews to get a goal in tonight’s game against a struggling Flyers’ defensive group. Take the over of +0.5 goals on Matthews.
