Toronto Maple Leafs Goalie Out with Lower-Body Injury

NHL Predictions; Joseph Woll injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs will have deal with an injury in between the pipes. Toronto announced that it will be dealing with the Joseph Woll injury due to a high-ankle sprain on a week-to-week basis. Woll was originally dealing with an illness, but this will keep him out of the lineup longer.

Toronto Dealing with Joseph Woll Injury

The American netminder left in the Leafs 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. Woll departed with 10:38 into the third period after taking a shot from Rourke Chartier on a backhander. The 25-year-old needed to be helped off the ice by teammates. Woll wasn’t able to put any weight on his left leg.

The St Louis native is 8-5-1 with a 2.80 goals-against-average so far this season. He has a .916 save percentage, but yet to record a shutout for the 2023-24 campaign. Woll has a 17-7-1 career record in 26 games and one career shutout. He also has a career mark of 17-7-1 with a 2.62 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage. Toronto selected Woll in the third round with the 62nd overall selection.

The young goalie played his college hockey with Boston College before joining the Leafs organization. He spent time in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies before earning a full-time gig in the NHL.

What the Joseph Woll Injury Means

This is bad news for a Maple Leafs squad that has seen plenty of ups and downs. Woll has shown some flashes of brilliance at times, but he’s still a younger netminder.

The Leafs will have to roll with an inconsistent Ilya Samsonov and an unsure Martin Jones in the crease for this period. Samsonov has struggled at times while Jones has had a couple of bad seasons in recent memory.

Expectations are always high and those will stay despite injuries to the defence and goalie. The Leafs are going to have the weather the storm in order to get out the other side.
