Christmas has come early, as the opening puck drop is today. Even though the opening rosters have been announced, everything is subject to change. Some names circling the rumour mill will remain that way until they are dealt with. One player to keep an eye on is Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane.
Patrick Kane Could Land With Original Six Team

All signs out of Chicago are pointing to Patrick Kane being traded. It is not a matter of if, but when. Most NHL teams would love to add a player of the calibre of Kane. So far teams such as the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs have been linked to the superstar. Now, a new team has emerged, and that is the Boston Bruins. A team eyeing the Stanley Cup makes perfect sense in acquiring Kane’s services, and the Bruins fit the bill. But does a move like this make sense for the team, and is it at all possible?
Bruins Last Run
With the Bruins window closing, it would be wise for Don Sweeney to go all in. The Bruins are a veteran-laiden team that are looking to take one last run at a Stanley Cup. Captain Patrice Bergeron (37), and David Krejci (36) fits the mould of where the state of the team is. In addition to that, Kane is only a few months younger than Brad Marchand. Kane fits the core perfectly, and going from a rebuild in Chicago to contending for the Stanley Cup should be a no-brainer move.
Kane would make the Bruins’ offence elite. The team boasts a top six of Bergeron, Marchand, Krejci, David Pastrnak, and Taylor Hall. Adding Kane would be a boost. He brings plenty of offensive power as he is coming off a 92-point season. With Bergeron and Krejci only signed for this year, this might be the last time this core can go all in.
Does it Make Sence
Chicago Blackhawks Patrick Kane is going to be on the move. In addition to having Kane fit the mould of the core group, there comes the trade itself. Kane is under contract for one more year. However, he does carry a cap hit of 10.5 million dollars. Per Cap Friendly, the team currently has $408k in projected cap space. Some work needs to be done but never say never.
Before the 2022 NHL Draft, the Blackhawks traded star winger Alex DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators. Ottawa gave up a first-round and second-round pick in the 2022 draft in addition to a third-round selection in 2024. Kane is much older but still an elite talent. If the Bruins are going to get Kane, Sweeney is looking at a similar package on top of finding the cap space to fit Kane’s contract into their salary structure.
