One of the greatest American-born players to ever lace up a pair of skates has signed a new deal today. Details of the new Patrick Kane contract have been announced. He will be re-joining his former team, as he has signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks. This deal has an average annual value of $8 million. This is a big deal, let’s discuss why we can come to that conclusion.

Kane isn’t the player he once was after battling back from hip issues. However, it really hasn’t impacted his bread and butter, which is his silky smooth hands. He can still dangle on the power play with the best of them. Chicago and young players like Connor Bedard and Frank Nazar will relish in the opportunity to learn from one of the greats of his generation.

There had been decent chemistry with him and Alex DeBrincat over the years, and Detroit Red Wings had been hoping that magic was going to carry them in 2025-26, and beyond. Still, Kane managed 16 goals, 41 assists for 57 points in 67 games, but it wasn’t enough to power the Wings to a playoff spot in the ultra-competitive Atlantic Division. With all the turmoil in Detroit, including the Dylan Larkin trade request, and Steve Yzerman stepping down as general manager, we knew Kane was looking to move on, as well.
Looking at Kane’s Greatness Based on his Accomplishments
As Patrick Kane contract news comes in, we reflect on his remarkable career to this point. First and foremost, is his Stanley Cup Playoff success with three rings to his credit, and in 2013 he also took home the prestigious Conn Smythe Trophy, as the most-valuable player of the playoffs. His legacy, along with long-time teammate Jonathan Toews and their championship pedigree, will long be remembered in Chicago, the Madhouse on Madison.
As he signs this deal, Kane ranks most all-time in regular season points by an American-born NHLer. He has 508 goals, 892 assists, for a total of exactly 1400 points in 1369 games played. That point total puts him fourth among active NHLers, and 24th on the all-time list.
