The Dallas Stars were able to take care of a major piece of business. News emerged that the Stars have signed the Jason Robertson extension with the young forward. The deal is for a total of $12 million and is for one year. This deal has an average salary cap hit of $12 million per season and runs through the end of the 2026-27 season.
This Jason Robertson extension also helps both sides avoid salary arbitration. However, this deal will likely only quell the speculation for a short time before the rumour mill kicks up again.

Jason Robertson Extension Signed by Dallas Stars
Robertson has only played for the Stars across his seven-year NHL career. The soon-to-be 27-year-old totaled 45 goals and 51 assists for 96 points in 82 games. He carded an average ice time of 20 minutes and 15 seconds, which is nearly two minutes more than he averaged previously. The Arcadia, California native had a Corsi for of 58.6 and a relative Corsi of 16.8.
In 456 career games, Robertson has 213 goals and 277 assists for 490 points. Dallas originally drafted Robertson in the second round, 39th overall of the 2017 NHL Draft. He came in second in the Calder Trophy voting for rookie of the year in the 2020-21 campaign behind Minnesota Wild superstar Kirill Kaprizov.
Robertson has also represented his native United States on the international level. He was a part of the American squad at the 2019 IIHF World Juniors and the 2019 World Championships.

What It Means
The long, drawn-out saga is over, and Robertson can now focus on hockey at least for the next few months. Robertson is very durable and has played in all 82 games each of the last four seasons.
There had been chatter that Stars general manager Jim Nill would have to trade Robertson. Dallas was cash-strapped and up against the cap despite the rising numbers. However, Nill is an award-winning GM and is good at his job.
The Stars may have to do some work in order to get under the $104 million salary cap number. However, they managed to keep important pieces like Thomas Harley and Robertson despite the odds being against them. However, Nill will have to answer this question again next year.
Robertson will become an unrestricted free agent, and Dallas may not get anything in return for the young forward. We could see trade chatter pop up again if a contract isn’t reached. The salary cap will be going up and Robertson seems to be banking on trying to have another quality season to justify a massive contract.
