Utah Mammoth Re-Sign a Kailer Yamamoto Contract Extension

The Utah Mammoth have reached an agreement on a Kailer Yamamoto contract extension. The deal is a two-year, $3.5 million contract. Furthermore, the deal will carry an average annual value of $1.75 million, a decent jump from his previous $775,000 salary cap hit. Yamamoto was set to become an unrestricted free agent when free agency opens this Wednesday, July 1st. Now he can sit back and watch the action with the rest of us.

Mammoth Re-Sign Yamamoto to Short-Term Extension

Yamamoto is well deserving of this deal. After making the 2025-26 Utah Mammoth roster out of training camp on a professional tryout, Yamamoto put up solid numbers while playing in a limited role. The 27-year-old recorded 13 goals and 23 points in 59 games, while averaging just 11:47 of ice time. So he was efficient. Yamamoto was mostly utilized in the bottom-six. However, the former 2017 first-round draft pick by the Edmonton Oilers did spend some time in the top-six forward lines. He also added five points during Utah’s six-game Stanley Cup Playoff defeat to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Yamamoto was on our list of players the Mammoth should bring back this offseason, and that prediction ultimately became official. Having a strong two-way game, while being able to play both wings makes Yamamoto a versatile player that general manager Bill Armstrong clearly likes. The forward will now remain with Utah for the next few seasons.

Up Next

As previously mentioned, free agency opens Wednesday and the Mammoth still have players that need new contracts. If they leave the team, then Utah will assess all options on the open market to fill out their roster. In the end, Yamamoto earned a new contract with his solid. Utah will hope this type of play will be contagious as they look forward to the 2026-27 NHL campaign.
