Buffalo Sabres Bring Back Tyson Jost

The Buffalo Sabres have made a Tyson Jost deal. Jost signed a one-year deal that carries a $2 million cap hit. News of the deal broke on Saturday afternoon.

Jost has played for the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild and the Sabres over his seven-year NHL career. The 25-year-old scored seven goals and 18 assists for 25 points in 71 games this season. His Corsi for was 44.9 and had a relative Corsi of -6.7. Colorado originally drafted Jost in the first round, 10th overall of the 2016 NHL Draft.

The St. Albert, Alberta native has scored 54 goals and handed out 80 assists for 134 points in 413 career games. Jost played for his native Canada at the international level. He earned a silver medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships and another silver at the 2019 IIHF World Championships. Jost returns to Buffalo after joining the team early in the 2022-23 season, when the Sabres claimed him off of waivers from the Minnesota Wild on November 19.

Jost played his college hockey at the University of North Dakota for one season in the 2016-17 season. He posted 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points with the Fighting Hawks. Jost made the NCHC All-Rookie team and the All-Conference tournament team.

Impact of Tyson Jost Deal

The young forward wasn’t given a qualifying offer by Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams at first, but there seemed to be little doubt that that Jost would stay with the club. Jost didn’t stay an unrestricted free agent long after not getting a qualified.

“I’ve definitely loved my time in Buffalo here. It’s been amazing,” Jost said. “I couldn’t have asked for things to work out any better. I’m really really happy that I ended up here.

He said that he’s loved his time in Buffalo and compared it to his time with Colorado. Jost will fit into the bottom part of the lineup.
