Minnesota Wild Sign Forward To Extension

The Minnesota Wild have signed forward Marcus Johansson to a two-year extension with an AAV of $2 million, according to a statement released by the organization.

Wild Sign Johansson To Two-Year Extension

The Minnesota Wild are making moves early, as they have locked up recently acquired forward Marcus Johansson to a two-year two million dollar extension.

Johansson recorded 18 points in 20 games with the Wild and recorded 28 points in 60 games for the Washington Capitals in his second stint with the organization before being moved around the deadline.

Johansson, 32, is in his second stint with the Minnesota Wild, having spent the 2020-2021 season with the club before being signed in free agency by the Seattle Kraken (link).

This will be Johansson’s second multi-year stop in a row, which isn’t the last time he has done this. He went from the Washington Capitals to the New Jersey Devils in 2017-2018.

What This Means

This is a great deal for the Wild. although it was only 20 games, Johansson almost recorded a point per game with 18 points. with 12 of those being assists, he can play a big role in the Wild’s top-six offensive line.

considering he put up more production than 2 million a season, this is a fantastic deal for the Wild to stay underneath the cap, and an important piece to lock up for cheap if they want to keep pushing for a Stanley Cup championship.

The Wild still have more pending free agents to make a decision on, which includes Gustav Nyquist, Oskar Sundqvist, and Ryan Reaves. Boldy’s 7-year 49 million dollar extension kicks in at the end of next year.

This is going to be a very important offseason for Bill Guerin, and it has already gotten off to a very good start.
